Just finished my first build. Used a sweet Engage Armament custom billet lower and a CMMG parts kit. Still waiting on the buffer tube and stock which should be here this week. I tried the clevis pin trick mentioned here in the stickies. (had to dremel and polish the clevis pin to fit and turn properly, but it made the installation of the from takedown pin a snap). I bought a punch kit, but honestly could have built the kit with a simple nail punch or maybe even a nail. This lower will probably become a dedicated .22 since my CMMG .22 upper shares lowers right now.

I was nervous at first, but after doing it, the next one will be a snap. It's very easy and if I can do it anyone can do it. Good luck to all future builders.

I have to ask...10 years on the board, and this is your first attempt?

Better late than never!

Yeah, I know pics are mandatory. I was on my way out the door to attend a viewing. Anyway, here is a crappy cell phone pic to hold you over until I get the rest assembled. As for not building one before, well there's no excuse after discovering how easy it was. I have a bunch of factory AR's in various flavors so I never really felt the need to build one. Plus, I'm not really mechanically inclined so the process seemed intimidating until I actually sat down to do it. The state I live in forced my hand to get some lowers. They passed a ridiculous so called "assault weapons" ban that goes into effect October 1st 2013 (no more lowers after 10/1). I ordered the lowers back in March and it took much longer to be built and anodized than anticipated. I finally picked up the pair of lowers at the end of July. So after putting it off because of time and partially because of fear I sat down and cranked out the first one. This board really helped and the process was painless. I'm kind of sad that once my next lower is built that will be it for me until I can move out of this Commie state.
