Looking for somebody that has done this. Would like a .25" coyote/varmint rifle that is not too heavy. Understand there are several .223 varmint uppers out there that will do this but I'd like a .20 cal.
I've talked to White Oak and 6mmar.com about an upper. One uses DPMS Lo-pro for a stiffer action, both standard barrels are pac-nor . Bartein and Kreigers are about 6 month wait. I have several on bench guns but have no experience w/ pac-nor. Currently leaning towards White Oak building a 20" SS Kreiger on Lo-pro upper. Will I kick myself later for not going w/ the full 24" or the pac-nor? Thought of building it myself but know nothing about fitted bolts, polished ramps, etc . Did see the thread on the brownell tool for truing actions. Much appreciated! -Greg |

I've had all the barrel lengths in stainless steel and I can tell you for coyote hunting you will not like the 24" I use the 20" right now and thinking about going back to the 18" .
For bench or prone shooting the 20 and 24 are great because you can see your hits in the scope. I have no experience with 20 cal ar15's just in .223 . |

I agree. 24" sucks for packing around on 2-3 mile walks. Theres a good article on the 20-223 around somewhere, the guy builds hunting AR's in these. I would think it'd be effeciant in a 20" tube, 22" at the most. I'd be inclined to get it turned to .790 behind the gas block and leave the .750 gas block to the muzzle. Talk to Tony at Tromix also as he has turned out a good number of these 20-223's. I have a couple 24 varmint in 204. There all right to bust Chucks of the roof of the truck but, thats about all. ![]() Bullberry barrels did some good testing on the .204 Ruger finding that a barrel length of 23 inches wrung out the best velocity numbers Dont know what best barrel length for 20 Tactical or 20 Practical will be... But the 20 Practical is a very interesting and economic idea...over the 17 Fireball or Mach IV ...imo I like the numbers...and longevity of the barrel...I hope to get myself one sometime this year depending on the political climate... |

Thanks guys, much appreciated. After calling around today, Penny from Pac-nor says that they are not doing finished AR barrels anymore and talk w/ Todd at noveskerifleworks.com. They are not taking any more orders until the backlog is caught up and will be making a run of 20 practical/tactical and 300 whispers around the April time frame.
