Has anybody ever converted there piston gun to run .22 lr? Is there cycle problems? I was looking at my options on converting my LMT MRP piston to run .22lr is it possible to run a conversion vs a dedicated upper???

I believe you can.  If you look on CMMG's website they sell a kit purpose built to run in a piston gun.  I'm not sure what the diff is but its in their little info video on them.

.22LR conversions don't use the rifle's gas system, they're pure blow back systems.  I know there is no interference in my standard M4 carbine.  Any interference in a piston system can be cured as simply as removing the rod.

Spikes Tactical makes a dedicated MRP barrel in 22lr. I have one –– it's awesome. No bullshit chamber adapters and a proper twist rate for 22lr. Ballistics are similar out to about 75 yards. POI ballistics, obviously not energy ballistics.

They have a dedicated 22lr bolt group you use. It would not work with my PRI Gas Buster charging handle. So I bought a Gunfighter and it works great. I experience very few malfunctions with the setup when using cheap Federal bulk pack ammo from Walmart. Do not buy that Remington lead clad shit. It won't work for shit.

My CMMG Kit works on my LMT MRP + piston without any issues. In Fact all jams have been mag related to one specific mag. Enjoy the Cheap ammo and training with your go to rifle - I shoot over 1K .22LR through mine a month.

The CMMG is cut for piston use. If the piston is too long, it can be removed for .22 use.
Spikes no longer carries the .22, so it's a no go.
The CMMG is a much better system providing forward assist, live round extraction, stainless steel construction, and many other features not available in any other system.
Excellent customer service that won't hang you out to dry by discontinuing it.

Note: Compatible with any 5.56 NATO chambered AR15, including Gas Piston Systems where the piston enters the receiver no more than 1 and 7/8 inch . Only for use in 5.56 NATO chambered AR-15 rifles.
