| I have a ciener conversion with 2 black dog mags. Bought the unit used at a gun show but it looked " as new ". Polished the rails and the feed ramp. In my Model 1 light weight 16 " upper and Rock River upper with 16" bull bbl. the unit works just fine. I had heard the switching between 5.56 jacketed and .22 lead would lead to poor accuracy unless you do a hell of a lot of cleaning before switching. I looked into getting a dedicated 22 upper that fed the 22 bullet directly into the chamber but, It was too expensive considering that I already had the conversion. I bought another A3 upper from Model 1 that duplicates my 5.56 upper. Light wt 16" bbl. , Aluminum tube hand guard and sightless gas block. I took out the gas tube and plugged the gas block rear port to keep dirt etc. out of the upper. The unit works like a charm. As others have posted it doesn't work well with bulk Remington. I lube it with Break Free CLP ––lightly–– It works with all of the 8 to 10 different brands of ammo I've used. I mostly use standard velocity or subsonic ammo. As i have a AAC Pilot suppressor that I and use on it and on the Advantage Arms 22 conversion unit for my Glock 23 ( 40 cal). Just about any ammo I use will group 2 inches or under at 100 yds. I use a 2.5 to 10 scope. With Aguila subsonic solids or hollow points it runs 1 1/4 inch with or without the suppressor. It is important to keep the unit lightly lubed so the bolt fully closes as there is no disconnect and it will fire with the shell only 1/2 in the chamber. ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SHOOTING ANYTHING ! ! ! !. I did have to tweek the extractor a bit. It was a little long (front to back) and when the bolt closed the front of the extractor would hit the barrel and cause the extractor the move a little to the right and keep the extractor hook from catching the shell rim. It was only a problem when extracting a live shell. A fired case comes out or the chamber as part of the normal recoil operated firing and reloading cycle. I tend to shoot more for accuracy so my shooting sessions usually are 100 to 200 rounds and I have no operating problems. At the end a quick brush off of the unit , a little CLP and a little canned air to blow the unburned powder out of the trigger group and "its good to go" |
