I want to build a cheap upper for my ceiner kit. I want to use a 223 barrel, do I have to use a gas block or can I just leave it off since it is a blowback?  Will the hole in the barrel being left open be an issue?

I plan on using a free float quad rail.

Thanks

Just use a plug in the gas block.

Contact Spikes Tactical... they supplies their .22 conversion kits with a gas block plug you may be able to purchase one from them.

You may also get more responses in the Pistol and Rimfire AR section.

The gas hole in the barrel won't be an issue.
