Does anyone make a 22 lr upper with a faster twist rate for the aguila sss ammo? I've heard of people cutting down 5.56 barrels and using conversion bolts. I don't think it's worth it for 20% more energy to only be able to use one type of expensive ammo. 40gn sub/16" Standard Velocity - 100ftlb 60gn SSS - 120ftlb 40gn 16" - 135ftlb |
| The 60 gr ammo was designed to be suppressed and be able to penetrate a human skull at 200 meters. It was not meant for plinking. You could probably get a barrel relined for the 1 in 9 twist. 10/22 barrels are made so if you need this type of performance it would be the way to go. |

I've tried SSS 60 gr in two uppers, both using a Ceiner conversion. First was a Rock River 20" HB with 1 in 9 twist, the second had a 16" 1 in 9, mil contour barrel. Accuracy was the same for both uppers.
SSS accuracy was pretty good at 50 yards, but SK Standard Plus ammo shot in the 0.5's at the same distance. CCI Quiet was also very accurate. Bulk Federal and Remington Golden Bullets were not accurate. Reliability was excellent but Quiet and Colibris do not cycle the conversion. Conclusion: I won't be getting a dedicated 22 LR upper. |
