I have the SS Cmmg bolt and two magazines.  Would like to build a dedicated upper.  I know I need an upper, barrel and collar, and delta ring.  I would like to go cheap and just use a magpul handguard, so how is it attatched in the front? Do I need a gas block just to hold it on? Thanks for any help.

there is a "handguard cap" that goes between the handguard and front sight base.

edit to add - you will also need a delta ring assembly (for the other end of the barrel.

If you don't have a front sight base then you will need a gas block to hold the hand guard cap (not sure if that's the proper name) in place.

I used a UTG Pro super slim free float on my dedicated upper and it was pretty cheap.  By the time you buy all of the parts to make a Magpul fit, you could have bought a UTG Pro on sale.

You can use a gas block or a clamp on FSB which is my favorite along with a cap.
Mine came from Primary Arms.

Yep. That. I have a Magpul MOE on two different rifles and really like them. But, for the effort and money a cheap handguard from Amazon would be a lot easier and less expensive.
