I am in the process of creating a 284 Win. wildcat that is necked out to .411 sized bullets. I was wondering if there is anyway that this could be chambered in an AR-15 platform. If so, who can do it and what is involved?

You may be able get that into a AR-10 lower but not in a AR-15 lower frame.

The .284 Win. has a much longer COL than a AR-15 magwell can handle ( 2.302").

Doc is correct if you leave it full length. If you shorten the case, it will work. The .450 Bushmaster is from a 284 win case cut off at the shoulder. So you could just neck down the 450 case to 411. It would be a hog and deer hammer.

The problem you run into putting a .473 case head in a AR15 is the bolt, have you seen one? not much meat left around it, and it is the weak link. that is why the 450 B can only be loaded to around 36,000 psi, I think Hornady loads to 38,000psi, the bolt can not handle the pressure that could make it a real thumper,

Solution: Black Hole Weaponry is building a magnum upper for the AR15 to solve the weak bolt problem, it is going to open the AR15 wildcat world to a new level. I am looking into a 284 shortened and necked down to 6.5.

Use 450bushmaster brass. Pick the max bullet length you will use & shorten brass(if needed) so the loaded OAL will fit the AR15. only issue is limiting the pressure to around 35K. The AR10 will have no limit to the pressure of the case & you could still use the bushy brass if the OAL works with the brass.

Couldnt I use a AR reciever that is inteded for a .308 they both have the same rim dimentins .473? As for brass, I am using 284 basic and necking down, the case has a slight shoulder and pushed back slightly. The OAL is the same as the 308.

In that case the AR10 platform is your only choice, your original post you asked about the AR15, it is a no go at that length.

who can do the barrel work? and do I have to modify the ejection port due to the slightly larger 284 case?
