Silly questions, admittedly, but probably easy information for someone to provide (and I haven't seen these answers anywhere)

I'm working into my first AR builds, and I think I want to do a 300 BLK upper.  But I have questions on how to go about this:

1. I have a 762-SDN-6 that I would like to use, WITHOUT removing the hand guard (sorry honeybadger'ers, but it's gotta easily be swapped with multiple rifles). Will a 7 inch carbine hand guard and an 8.2 barrel give me enough room for it fully seat, but not recess? My calculations/measurements based on my current 16 barrel seems like it should, but not sure if anyone has tried this/has pictures/measurements to provide)  What about a 7.6 inch hand guard (looking at the Samson EVO line-up).

2. What is the buffer/spring combo that works best with a 300 BLK SBR? Probably run subsonic more than sonic ammo, but want the versatility(the whole point of 300 BLK).

Thanks!

question number one I dont know how the particular suppresor attaches but I have an 8.5 inch with a seven inch midwest industry rail and my yankee hill attaches just fine.
number two a standard carbine buffer and spring will work fine.

1. Depends on how it is mounted.  I ran a TM ISIS on a 11.3" Wilson barrel with a 10" Troy handguard and it was perfect.  However the portion of my can which was threaded was much smaller than the OD of the can itself, and nested just inside the handguard.

2. I don't play around with very many different springs - but I did find that the buffer weight made a difference in tone when shooting with the can.  Not to sound obvious... but you want the heaviest buffer that will still allow you to run reliably.  A heavier buffer = slightly slower bolt open = less noise coming back at you via the ejection door.  It's not a dramatic difference, but I believe it is noticable.   I ran an ST2 buffer with 208 grain Hornadys and 10.5 grains of AA1680 if that helps.  This load chronographed at 950 fps.

Saw a setup at Rainier Arms last week...
8.2 inch barrel with a 15"(?) Seekins MCSR that they run a 762SDN6 on. Just use a tool through one of the vents in the HG to release the catch. Seekins rail is 1.8" I.D.

Your combo should work. Mine is a 10.2" with a 9" rail:

I use spikes t2 buffer

I have an 8.2" with the 7" NSR rail.  I use the Spikes T2 buffer in mine.

Thanks for the compliment. It is my favorite firearm that I own.

I am running standard weight Springco buffer springs in both my 300 shorty uppers.
The Springco springs are color coded.  White is the color for standard weight carbine
springs.  I am running white springs and ST-T1 buffers.  They T1 is a 3 oz. version of
the heavier ST-T2 buffer.  Built with the same super quiet tungsten powder and a very
nice product in its own right.

Obviously you want the heaviest buffer that will cycle reliably in your upper.  When I
tried the heavier "blue" springs and ST-T2 buffers my guns cycled ok, but failed to
lock open on the last round about 25% of the time.
