tag for results nobody at my club shoots a 300 much past 50 yards and I haven't seen any amazing groups yet. I would add that almost all shoot subsonic suppressed.Roger that and I see somebody claimed sub-moa ... wonder if they meant under an inch at 50 ? |
| is anyone getting good groups with subs? I have not taken the time since I sighted in to do a scientific study. My "study" is do I hit an 8" steel plate at 100Y and I listen. Upon looking at the plate (after fresh paint), they are not in any sort of 1" - 2" group, sort of all over the place, but all on target. I guess that means something like 7-8 MOA. |
|
Ok will do. Going to the range this Saturday and will shoot 4 groups @ 100 with my 300 BLK. To be honest the group on the bottom right looks pretty indicative of what my gun produces.

Do me a favor and shoot four groups at 100 with that load so we got an average. Quoted:

My LMT 10.5" 300 BLK shoots under an inch with handloaded Barnes 110gr bullets, but its a 1-7 twist. Do me a favor and shoot four groups at 100 with that load so we got an average. |

My load testing has all been at 50m. Upper is an AAC factory 16" and optic used was the SWFA 1-6. With 125gr SMK, 125gr Nosler ballistic tip, 110gr AMAX, and 150gr FMJ, all over Lil'Gun, I would get one ragged hole with at least one of the loads for each bullet. Hopefully I can get to the range this weekend to test them at 100m, but I am fairly optimistic they will hold 1 MOA.
These were all five shot groups. I am by no means an accomplished shooter so I was pleasantly surprised by the results. |

We're trying to kill stuff with a fast-dropping pistol round, not shoot bench rest matches. |
| I will see if I can shoot some groups for you as well later this week or this weekend Mark. I lined my 16" YHM barreled upper up at 100 yds this weekend in a good stiff wind and know I was well under a 2" group. I wasn't sub MOA but not far from it. I was shooting factory loaded Barnes VOR-TX 110 TAC-TX ammo. |

I suppose the vertical stringing is indicative of variations in burn rate.
If you carefully tap tap tap the powder to the case bottom, then sneak them in one at a time carefully, with the same slow motion, to keep powder pile consistency, you'll get better groups. We shot these out of the magazine. |

I tried 4 or 5 barrel lengths and a couple twist rates and never did better then 1.5-1.75MOA until I switched to the 110grain Barnes ( hand loads, not factory ammo). They're pricey but worth the money in my experience. They shoot just at/under MOA rested on a range bag with a low power scope, stock trigger and 14.5" barrel. Would probably be .5-.75 with a match gun setup and a real rest. I was convinced the blackout wasn't capable of MOA or better until using them.
I saw your drone killer video in GD earlier. If you install a latch on your charging handle you might shoot better groups

Easy enough to get 1" groups at 100 yards with my AR, but the round is capable of bug eye groups from my Encore. Loading that Encore the same way each time ... Correct, How else would you load an Encore? stuff the cartridge down the muzzle end? LOL Most every reloaded round that I run thru my Encore I can also run thru my AR because I use modified mags that allow a COL of over 2.3". The terminal performance nearly matchs the 762x40 with most bullets other than all-copper which I can get to match the performance. |

1.25MOA at 100yards with converted WCC brass, thrown powder charges. 208Amax subs. 3 shot groups but multiple 3 shot groups not one screamer.
Groups shot with a 10x Vortex PST scope not the red dot during load development/testing. This build: https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_51/451315_New_Toy___300BLK_SBR.html ETA: Magazine fed |

Some examples I've seen.
3 - 9" AAC uppers all shoot .5 -1" @ 50 yards with the same handloaded 208 subs. 1-4x scopes 8.2" Noveske with 4x Acog shoots .5" @ 50 with 208 subs and 1" @ 100 with 110 v-maxs. All handloaded 10.5" Noveske with 3-9x scope shoots sub moa @ 100 with 110 barnes, 110 v-max, and 125 nosler bts. All handloaded 14.5" Noveske with 3-9x scope shoots .5 - .75 moa @ 100 with 125 Noser bt handloads. 16" Noveske with 3-9x scoope shoots sub moa @ 100 with 110 v-max and 110 barnes handloads 16" Wilson combat with 3-9 scope shoots 1 moa @ 100 with factory barnes 110 ammo 14.5" Noveske with 3-9 scope shoots 1.25 - 1.5 moa @ 100. This is the best after a lot of load testing. This gun would not shoot 2 moa with factory ammo 16" Rainier Ultramatch with 3-9 scope was just like the 14.5 above. 1.25 - 1.5 was the best after tons of shooting. Obviously theres been a lot of 300blk shooting around here. But most of these guys agree that handloads were the only choice for sub moa for them. |
| The Caliber must be incredibly frustrating to you and your group Mark, as your used to stacking them in there with ease. But in my experience with the few rifles I have shot with it (AAC, ccouple of home builts), and factory ammo---its not a hole stacker. Its a 100 yard capable deer dropper. |

^^^ Sure would be nice to see you take one of the under 1 moa and shoot 5 groups in a row with it. I will see if we can do that this weekend if the weather is decent. None of them have been tested like that so it will be interesting. Need to test my 18" Stealth loads anyway |

Looks good to me... When are the 300 Black SBR PredatOBR uppers gonna be available? I'd be happy with a 5.56 SBR PredatOBR upper now, with the ability to swap barrels to a 9" 300 blk in the future! That'll work too! |

My new hog rifle is a stock M&P15 in 300BLK. Since it has an EoTech, I shoot groups at 50 yards. So far,
two loads have been fired, 110 Hornady VMax and UMC 120 OTMs. When I do my part it can put 3 rounds in an inch, but I am noting some inconsistent shots that are the ammo, IMHO. It isn't as consistent as a 556. That said it is a wonderful 200 yard hunting round for my woodland hunts. It would also be a great patrol rifle round. Hopefully I'll get a can and try the subsonics someday. The 300 is fun to shoot. I look forward to getting set up to reload for it and hunt with it. |

Something to try if your are getting erratic results:
300 BO isn't a strait walled cartridge but it is pretty close. I have found that many strait walled cartridges (450 bushmaster, 357 Maximum, 44 mag, etc.) need a good bullet crimp to get the best accuracy. (Many theories abound as to why) My 300 project has been on the back burner for a while but I'm going to be experimenting with it's accuracy potential next spring. Good luck J.W. |
| I can get some pretty 3 shot cloverleaf groups, but trying to get 5, 5 shot groups opens things up to 2 inches or so. I am pretty happy with that though given that my primary 300 (10.5") normally wears a 4 MOA red dot on it anyways. I'm not shooting it at anything smaller than an 8" plate at 100-200m. Its primary purpose is for 25 feet and in, as it sits in a rack in my closet in case something goes bump in the night that my pistol isn't enough for. |
|
I am with the masses here... no pictures yet, we were trying out a new camera system last weekend and I don't have that hardware here with me.
But, while sighting in the new Trijicon MRO, I consistently had under 2" groups at 75yds, Gun has 9" AAC barrel on custom Sun Devil build, I only shoot 220 SMK hand loaded subs through a AAC 762SDN6. I am very pleased with the results and in my opinion this is very accurate for a subsonic load. |
