Alright, looking on getting a .308. ive seen the new RRA's 308 that takes the FAl mags. that seems like a good option. also have looked at an AR10. i want no shorter then a 24inch for this rifle. so any ideas. who makes a really good one? i want a pretty good tack driver. thanks everyone take care |
 DPMS, first time out. I'm not sure of all of the factors that makes the LR308 accurate, but here's what I've found so far: The DPMS has a nice beefy upper receiver, which probably adds to the stability of the receiver/bbl interface. Their bull bbls are nice and heavy. The bore feels smooth, even on the chrome-moly bbl. The chamber is tight. I haven't checked headspace to get the numbers yet, but you can see the pressure on the brass. They also don't recommend mil surp ammo for this reason. I'm just T&E'ing the DPMS at this point, but I really like what I see so far. Besides, they are less expensive than other brands and their metal magazines fit and feed perfectly. |
thanks for the post. but i would probably be using mil surp ammo. it seems like with the RRA the FAL mags would be good, and cheap. just a thought. i know these havent hit the market. but they seem like they are going to be good. comments? |
Yes DPMS does say dont use surplus but it does not matter. Mine eats it all with no problems. If you do send an upper in for some feed ramp work or some other issues just tell them you used factory only. I bought my DPMS because its kick ass and runs flawless. |
| The FAL rifle & variants have been around since the 1950s. Adopted by over 70 NATO countries. Ive shot a FAL, 20 round steel mags, they are very tough. In the bushmaster 308, Ive had no problems with the mag. If Rock River uses the FAL mag Im sure they will not be a problem. |

DPMS, 24" barrel (from Clark Custom Guns w/Williams Set trigger) Sightron SII416X42MD scope: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/bonifacio7/DPMStarget060122d013ts.jpg Interestingly, it shoots slightly smaller MOA at 200 yards (0.423 average vs. 0.446 at 100) - perhaps the bullets stabilize after 100. Next will be 300 and 600 yards. |

good shooting. i tried 168gr (noslers though), 175. 180, and 190gr matchkings. i got best groups with 180, and 175 close behind. 5 shot groups always well under moa. thats at 200 and 300 yds. settled in best around 43gr, with varget. |
