I haven't been on here in a while (Uncle Sam has been keeping me busy) but I'm looking to buy or build a 308. I built my last AR/SPR in 223 and love it but want something a little bigger. I've search threw the threads and there are to many options. I'm looking for 308 to shoot of the bench but also take our for critters(whitetail mainly when I move back to the lower 48). I'm not going to be shooting over 500-600 yards so an extremely long barrel isn't needed. I will be adding a scope. I really like the Millet TRS on my SPR so I will being looking at another or something in the same price range. Right now there are just to many options... I am on a budget but want the best I can get for the money. I'm more then will to build so I can buy piece by piece instead of a large lump sum.
So what would you do if you were to build a mild (yet nice accurate) hunting/bench rifle? What parts/pieces or uppers and lowers would you choose? |

i would go with the mega ma ten reciever set, phenominal fit and finish,
my sugestion would be mega ma ten 500 rainier arms 16 or 18 inch match barrel 400( i went with noveske for an extra 100 dollars) bcg or your choice about 250 daniel defense lower parts kit 75 A2 stock kit 75(i went with a UBR since i had a spare) any rail 300(i went with daniel defense) total would be around 1600 also you can build an armalite ar10t for around 1400 just ordering the upper and lower seperate from armalite |
| If you want to shoot out to 600 yds, rather than try and build one for about "$1600) I'm sure you can get a RRA LAR-8 with a 20" bbl that weighs 9 lbs stock, and shoots probably better than you can...has a cryo'd barrel from the factory, plus the best trigger in the business...(don't flame me, just look around High Power matches). Also, uses FAL mags which are avail for $15-20 every where. I have one that I use for High Power Semi Auto mil. Sihlouette matches and is quite accurate at 500 m offhand...Oh, all this can be had out the door for less than $1600....Shrps74 |

You are right shrps. This is exactly why I asked the question on here. I want multiple answers and ideas! I'm going to window shop here locally this weekend and see what the shops up here have and can get.
Keep the ideas coming.. 33 I would more the likely change things out also. I have some decisions to make

i would have to second the MA-TEN. I just built one my self.
Here is a great MA-TEN FAQ thread. if you have time read the 15 pages of it. You will learn a TON. I have a friend who has the LAR-8 from Rock River, he picked it up for around $1000. He is very happy with it. If I were to buy a semi 308 instead of build I would have bought one too. |

Ranier is having a sale on some good barrels, Shilen blanks, done by White Oak Arms. I just picked up the 18" for a build I'm doing. |

I got my 16" mid-length A4 LAR-8 from KYGUNCO.com for $907 shipped ($1265 MSRP). I think the sale may be over but it's worth checking into if you're interested. Mike |
