Im going to dive into a Mega MaTen build. Im getting an MKM upper in the beginning of June. Still gotta find a lower though.
Anyways, I was wondering what 308 bolt carrier groups are available. Im getting one of Mega's barrels, so it has to have a SR25 style bolt. I was trying to go through the Mega Build thread, but there is so much it starts making my eyes hurt. I would like to use something of higher quality than the DPMS BCG. I use Youngs in my AR15s, and was wondering about their 308 carriers. I cant find their website, or anything, are they still in business or what? I dont like the idea of a Low Mass bcg, so that rules out JP. But will probably use their bolt. What other options are available? Most that I can find seem to be rebranded DPMS stuff with various coatings. Maybe google just isnt liking me lately, but I cant find much online. Any help is much appreciated. |

Nothing against the DPMS stuff. Just figured if Im spending the money trying to make a precision build, why not go with a better BCG, if there is one.
Thats why I was leaning towards Youngs, I really like their AR15 stuff, they are very well machined, very clean, and I just wanted the same for the 308. But I cant find them for sale, or any info on them anymore. Its like Youngs has disappeared from the internet. |

I am looking for one for my Maten build also. It seems like the stock for AR BCG's is starting to catch up and hopefully some manufacturer can focus on some 308's.
Rainier mentioned on Facebook they were looking at coming out with a NiB one. They figured it would be about 30 days out. FWIW it was very well received. Also I asked KE Arms on whether Young was going to produce more .308 carriers and he mentioned they would be out pretty soon. I hope they do a complete BCG rather than just the carrier. Last I heard RCA was also looking into making one. |

My AR15 Young BCGs are not staked. Proper torque works very well, but its always nice to have added peace of mind.
I was wanting the Young carrier and JP bolt. Figured that would be the best match unless Young is making a bolt. But not sure if it will stack up with the JP. But I figured I might as well try to find the best I can get if Im going the Mega route. Might as well splurge |

I texted Dan this evening and he is only doing carriers still so u would need the Jp bolt.
Dan does not stake his keys and if u want a interesting conversation ask him why. I hear his rants about staking all the time at the shop and I find them amusing. With that said I have every one of his bcgs in 556 from basic to Nm, lw etc and beat the snot out of em and yet to have a issue. I have also seen the pile of improperly staked keys on his desk when ppl fck em up. His magic lock tight is pretty good so stake or ur own risk. |

I prefer the Armalite BCG's, but I have mostly used DPMS BCG's for my ground-up large-frame AR projects. Armalite has a better design, in my opinion, namely with the spring-captivated firing pin and balanced lugs on the bolt. I like those features. I "balanced" the bolt on my JP LMOS, but I've been looking at trying to add a spring to the firing pin, along with bushing the firing pin hole down to .0625". JP does offer their .308 bolt with those features already, though. |

I recommend a good gas key staking tool. The gas key on that Bolt Carrier is not staked at all. May or may not cause problems down the road. But but, it's more expensive. So it must be better ![]() Its not about costing more. Its about more precise machining and better QC. Something you cant get from mass produced goods. Better quality usually means higher price. Im kinda against Armalite. Nothing wrong with their products, just dont appreciate their stance regarding ban states and LEO sales. So they wont be receiving my money. Also, Im getting one of Mega's barrels, which use the SR25 style extension. Im probably just gonna search for the Young 308 Carrier and get the JP bolt and be done with it. |

Your own eyes can detect deviations of .001"? Impressive. There's one born every minute. Get educated and read up on economies of scale, then find out what you're paying for. |
