looking to do a 308 build, ill probably buy an assembled upper, (im aware that voids the classification of a 'build') my question lies in the buffer extension. i have a few extra 556 mil spec buffer tubes laying around, can i use one of them?

ive heard people say yes, i've seen people say no. is it a matter of what spring or buffer you use.. or are the dimensions of the tubes incompatible?

Yes, you can use the AR15 tubes, as the original KAC SR25K was built using a Mil-spec Colt stock.

DPMS basically copied that, but with cheaper components when they introduced the AP4.  The buffers are very short, but with a stronger and longer recoil spring than an AR15 carbine.

Noticeably stronger spring.
