I have a 16" barrel Pac Nor chambered by Marty Weems in 338 Specter. It looks like it will come down to RL 7 or  RL10 for the 300gr SMK for subsonic loads with suppressor attached. You have to shoot like it is a rimfire because of the time the bullet is in the barrel. JP

I don't know whether or not you plan to use a suppressor, but here's a data point.  I asked Marty whether a regular 9mm suppressor would work and he said that in his experience, yes.  I have to defer to him GENERALLY, but mine does not work.  I have a YHM 9mm suppressor and it moves point of aim at least 12 inches and opens 338 groups from 1" or better at 87 yards to no better than 7 inches.  I have seen no evidence of baffle strike, but something is dreadfully wrong with my set-up.

I am waiting for Marty to get me a 16-18 inch barrel in 338 and after that is built I will probably get a custom-made suppressor from these guys: http://www.awcsystech.com/thundertrap.html

Wow!  I am using a SWR Trident and it works without issue, several others are using similar set ups, including the guys at SWR.... see if somehow you can test it with a different suppressor, I would be curious to see how that would affect it.  Baffle strike would be difficult to imagine as the 9mm suppressor will have enough clearance for a .355 bullet and you are firing a .338 bullet, so plenty of room.  It could be that the baffle geometry of the YHM somehow is causing an issue?  Steve at ADCO is using a YHM 9mm on an 8.5" barrel 338 Spectre with good results, not sure if he has shot for groups.

My Spectre works great with my SWR Trident as well.

Marty

I have not been able to test it with another 9mm suppressor, but I was able to use an AWC in 338 that worked perfectly (other than changing the POA slightly).  As I said, I will probably just go with a custom-made AWC once I get another barrel from you.

Also, I want to emphasize that I think this is primarily a result of some anomoly with the YHM suppressor I have.  Again, the 338 barrel shoots great until you hang the can off the end of it.
