Anyone know if Tromix makes season runs of these barrels or if it was just a one time thing?

The 35 bore cartridges really intrigue me and I like the pressure window Tony stays within for the AR 15 platform.

One time thing.  He did a group buy but not enough people wanted one so it was removed from production.

If you really want one and are willing to put your money where your mouth is, call Tony and tell him you will buy and supply the blank if he will chamber and profile it, and be willing to pay up front.   And don’t expect him to drop everything for a one off.  He may be willing to work it into his schedule if you show you are serious and supply the blank.

Too many people say they want special crap but don’t want any skin in the game, then back out never to be heard from again.

Just like most group buys, 50 people say “I’m in” and plans are made then when it comes time to collect the funds, half or more come up with some B.S. reason to back out.

You may want to consider Winchester's new .350 Legend.

The .358 SOCOM and the .350 Legend are about as similar as a .22 LR and a .22-250.  Plus, the .358 SOCOM does not need specialized mags.

You could look at the 358 Yeti from MDWS, or possibly their forthcoming 35 GPC. There is also the 358 MGP available.

TROMIX, Tony, just announced that he is going to do a LIMITED run of .358 SOCOM barrels.  Now you can once again get a real .35 caliber kick-ass round in the AR-15 platform that delivers.  And yes, .357 bullets work just fine.

I’ve had a .358 SOCOM for several years and it is a really nice round and it delivers.  There is quite a bit of load data on the .458 forums but I have found the 200 gr. FTX at 2303 fps, 24" bbl, and at only 36K psi so brass lasts forever, just like the .458 and the .375 SOCOMs.  It really kicks butt and takes names.  Just like the .458, bolt, barrel, and enlarged ejection port is all that’s needed.  Any mag for the .458 works for the .358 but I prefer PRI 6.8 mags to get a little longer load length.  Dies can be had from CH-4D or Hornady IIRC and I form by running the case through a .400 intermediate sizer (for the .375 SOCOM), then a .375 sizer, then the .358, but if you anneal first, and after, you may be able to go from .458 to the .400 intermediate die then go straight to the .358.  A few steps but it’s not hard.

Go over to this thread on the .458 SOCOM forums to notify Tony you want to get on the list.  And for God’s sake, be an adult.  Don’t get on the list unless you are 100% certain you are serious about it.  Too many tire kickers have ruined too many things like this in the past.  Be a man and if you commit, follow through.

And no, I am not affiliated with TROMIX in any way, just a long time repeat customer.

You can just buy 375 SOCOM brass from SBR Ammunition and then run it through the 358 SOCOM sizing die and you're good to go.  I wouldn't screw around with forming it from 458 SOCOM unless you already have all the intermediate sizing dies.

Good point, and from SBR the prices for .458 and .375 brass is pretty much the same.  However, .458 brass is considerably cheaper from Starline and others.  But that savings is lost since you need to buy that intermediate sizing die, and it’s not like you’ll be using the intermediate sizer all the time.  .458, .400. .375, .358, all the socom based cases last damned near forever.

How many stages from .458 Socom to .44 Fury?
Any chance of those barrels in the future?

Best,

We only made one 44 SOCOM/Fury barrel.  There wasn't much interest in it.  I don't have plans to make any more of them.

OK.  Thanks.  I wish that weren't the case, but that's the way things go, sometimes.

Best,
