I've recently finished building my 3 gun rifle and have run into a little bit of an issue during test firing.  I am using a Syrac Ordnance adjustable gas block and attempting to use a VooDoo Innovations Low Mass Bolt Carrier Assembly.  The low mass bolt carrier won't fully cycle even when the gas block is fully opened.  I have replaced the buffer springs with increasingly lighter versions, and it is still short stroking.  I have swapped BCGs and the rifle operates flawlessly.  In your opinion, is there any reason it is doing this because it's a low mass bolt (and therefore no low mass bolt would work correctly?) or is it just the bolt and/or bolt model I purchased?  Thanks!

You have swapped to a regular carrier and it runs well?  Did you run that carrier with standard springs/buffer? If ut ran then it would seem the LW carrier has problems. Have you tried that carrier in a different rifle?

Are you using a standard carbine buffer?

I had a few headaches with the Voodoo carrier also - for now I have switched to a JP and threw the Voodoo in the parts bin until I can get around to looking at it. If everything runs 100% with a standard carrier, contact Voodoo and see what they suggest.

I had the same issues with a Voodoo Carrier. They require more gas to cycle than a full weight BCG. The gas had to be wide open for it to run. Drop an M16 carrier in and you could crank the gas down, but then swap the Voodoo carrier in and it would stop cycling. I finally sent it back to Voodoo, they shipped me a new one, same problems. I don't understand why they won't run with the gas turned down, but it's a very common problem. It must be an issue with the gas keys or rings, and I got tired of tinkering with it. They're probably fine with a fixed gas block and a normal-sized gas port, but you definitely can't turn them down like you should be able to with a low mass carrier.

My suggestion would be to swap to a JP low mass carrier  or other quality brand so you can turn the gas down. There's a pretty noticeable difference vs an M16 carrier.
