Hello,

My son who is a US Marine is asking me what a good 3 point sling he should buy.  I told him I have no idea since I haven't used a 3 point sling. What would you advice that he get?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Three points are webbing octopi and overly complicated for the job they are supposed to do.  And i say this being a reformed 3pt user.

I HIGHLY recommend the Vickers VCAS sling from Blue Force Gear

Find out the specific weapon its for and give them a call.

My advice would be to listen to Lumpy and tell him to ditch the 3 point.
Go with a good adjustable 2 point like the VCAS or Gear Sector.  You'll get pretty much all of the capabilities with none of the headaches of the 3 point.

Thank you Lumpy196 & m24shooter for the tip.  I just talked to my son on the phone and he said he is using an A3  M16 rifle with a 20" barrel.  I'll show him this thread and have him check out that link you gave me.  Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

If he's running an A4 then the 2 points are the way to go.  The three point has a tendency to make going prone or shooting from the off shoulder problematic to impossible.  There is enough strapping to simulate an octopus humping your rifle, it will snag on everything if he does any sort of mounted duty and has to get out quickly, and it will potentially block the charging handle and bolt release.
Go with one of the two points and he'll be much better off.  He can still do patrol carry, low ready carry, transition to sidearm, shoot off shoulder, go prone, and whatever without an excess of webbing.
