Hey guys,

I used to subscribe to "Guns & Ammo" years and years ago. I used to see ad's in the back of the magazine all the time for kits that would make your rifle fire in 3 round bursts. I remember that they advertised them as legal because they were not "full auto devices," rather just a mechanism that would cycle the trigger 3 times when activated. Well these were obviously being sold before the AWB but I belive they were being sold after the 86' MG ban (if not before as well) just due to the years I had a subscription.

So my question is... are the 3 round burst devices legal again? were they ever legal? Are they legal to get now that the AWB has sunset? Thanks for any tips...

I believe what you are thinking of is the "Hell-Fire" trigger system.

I have never operated one, but from what I hear, its pretty crappy.  The spring like device fits over the trigger and essentialy lets you bump fire the gun easier.

You might could do a google search and see, but like you, I haven't seen an AD in a long time.  My guess is they went under becuase of a crappy product, not because of the AWB.

BMF Activator and GAT are Gatling devices. Hell-Fire and Tac are palpitation devices. They are not fixede round  burst, merely whatever you get. The Gatling devices work best, but often require two hands so a bipod is nice. They have always been legal AFAIK.

The AWB has no bearing on these.  Anything firing more than one round per trigger pull is still a "machine gun" and regulated heavily by federal law, same as before.

Edited to add: I don't mean these various "full-auto" trigger devices, which are ok (the trigger is still pulled once per shot).

I have used the tac trigger system.

And it is a huge waist of money!!!!!!

I friend bought it, and it just bent when we tried to use it. it was just cheap metal!!!!!!

Just learn to bump fire.  It's a total and complete waste of ammo, but it's crazy ass fun.  It is technically legal as only one round fires per trigger press.  However, some gun ranges do not allow "rapid fire".

I picked up "hell fire" years ago for a Mini-14.  Occasionally it would fire a two or three shot burst.  It was junk.

I remember what he's talking about. There was a device... Put out by hellfire if i recall called a "tri-burst" trigger assembly. I haven't seen it in shotgun news in years. They are still selling variants of hellfire triggers on the net if you look for them, allthough i haven't seen that particular tri-burst system advertised anywhere lately. Just go to lifelibertyetc.com and check out the bump fire academy. much cheaper

I found it! I had one of those don't know where it came from but it is new in the package in my junk box! I put it on a rifle and will go give it a try today.....

"TRI-BURST Trigger activator"

The instruction sheet that came with it mentions "inertia fire" guess what that is........

I'll post a range report later.
Basically all it is, is a second trigger unit that ratchets back and forth tripping the trigger three times per stroke. looks stupid and made crappy.....
But I will let you know if it works.

IIRC, the tri burst mechanism attached to the weapon and had a lever, like a lever action rifle, that ran down the front of the pistol grip. Allegedly, the manipulation of this lever operated a mechanism that would activate the trigger three times for each stroke of the lever. Probably a variation on the "Gatling" types.

I don't recall seeing one in person, but may have and just forgot. No memory as to how well it worked or if it worked at all, outside of the ads..

There was also a device sold for a time that, when installed internally in a Mini-14, caused it to fire once with a pull of the trigger, then again when the trigger was released. Made duplication of full auto fire very close to the real thing. They DID require siome adjustment, but DID work.

As I recall, I THINK BATF ruled them illegal and stopped manufacture, as they decided one "function of the trigger" meant from the start of the pull to the release of the trigger. Thus TWO shots fired in this function cycle, legally constituted a machinegun.

It did something..... But it does not work as advertised.

An Example if I squeezed the TB Trigger fast it slid past the pawl and fired one shot
not BANGBANGBANG.... to get it to fire three shots in a row I had to make a concerted effort to fire three shots, Bang                     Bang                    Bang...
If I squeeze the regular trigger in a tripple tap I get Bang Bang Bang...... Best word description I can give.... Like I said glad I didn't buy it! Until last evening it was in a junk box new in the package now it will go in the junk box without it's wrapper to be placed among other useless gadgets in a museum some day......
