I've had both, the eotech gen 2, and the latest aimpoint. I've kept the aimpoint. Both units have nice clear glass. The Eotech seemed to have a wider field of view to me, the aimpoint has much better eye relief. The Aimpoint has much better mount options available. The Eotech comes with a mount, but it's an ARMS fts that had a lot of wobble in my example. Not the mount to rail fit, but the fts lock portion wobbled. My aimpoint rides in a larue fts mount and is as solid as a permenant mount. For me, the Eotech mount was faster to flip in and out of your fov, the aimpoint, while a little slower, is much more robust. The aimpoint unit itself has total rubber armor protection. The eotech partial. Both units have adjustments to center the red dot in the optic. In the end, either unit is a fine piece of equipment. However, if I could only have one, for me it would be the aimpoint for it's rugged and varied mounting options, and its greater eye relief. I am not a professional gunner, an operator, a tough guy, a competitive shooter, a brand loyalist koolaid drinker, or an internet commando. Just a Fireman that likes shooting guns and owning good gear. The above is just one guys opinion. I have served in the military, but back then we only shot iron sights. Good luck!

How does the VMX3 eye relief compare to the Aimpoint? I'm actually surprised at how usable the Primary Arms regular 3X is––I thought the eye relief would be too short for my AK, but it's fine. I just like it so much I've thought about upgrading––though I'm also trying out the TAC30 since magnification was so nice (previously I'd only used Eotechs by themselves––the 3X really turns the reticle into something magically crisp).
