I'm looking for a good 3x stand alone red dot scope that will not break the bank.
I've looked a Burris and Cabelas but the reticle is too small and the new Vortex isn't out yet. The rifle will be used between 0- 300m I am not looking at Trijicon TA versions are anything beyond $400. |

Hey,
I have the Burris AR-536 . It has the same retical as the 3x and MTAC. It does take some getting used to after lifelong use of traditional cross hairs. Mine is mounted on my new Ruger SR-556 and after sighting in at 100 yards and achieving a 1/2" group using factory reloads I decided to try out the bullet drop compensator. My club has 9" steels set up at 600 yards and I'll be damned if I did not hear the glorious sound of a far off "clang"! Then I noticed someone left some clay pigeons on the 500 yard berm and I cleaned off all those too. After that I became an instant fan of both Ruger and Burris. The only criticism I can offer on the Burris is a pretty short eye relief. The optics are clear and bright, the BDC is dead nuts on the money. The cabelas 3x is very similar to the Burris. Not sure on your question on the focal plane as this is a prism system. FYI - the Bushnell AR 1-4 is a front focal plane scope and incredibly clear and well made for the money $180. Scott Ps this set up out shoots my left hand Stag varmint with a Leupold mk4 |
