I just recieved my new 450 Bushy upper. I have ran 30 or so rounds through it. I have had feeding problems with almost every mag. The first round of every mag needs forward assist. I want to be able to hunt with this firearm, but I need to know I can rely on it to chamber and fire every time.

Has anybody else have this problem? Does it need a break in period? Any other experiance with this impressive upper reciever?

Thanks,

My brother's 450 is not ejecting so that's another problem...

But on yours, what is your stock, buffer, and buffer spring combo?

I presume you are shooting  the factory Hornady ammo?

Factory Hornady 250 Grn FTX. Full length stock, buffer and spring. I was going to try the CAR lower, but settled on this combo.
I've had several stovepipes, a couple hammer drops that didn't touch the primer, one that did, but didn't go off. Most the time it has ejected....It must chamber hard because of the foward assist every first round.....shouldn't be so particular, should it? I have some other lowers, maybe they will work?

Interesting.  There's to much going wrong to try to isolate.  I would contact Bushmaster...maybe the bolt is totally our of spec.

Spinkiller, welcome to AR15.com.  I don't own a 450B.  You may have to down-load by one round short of full capacity, if the round stack in the mag is too tight, the bolt may not be able to strip that top round at a fast enough velocity to chamber fully.  You could also take a Dremel tool to the front edge of the magazine and  lower it by 1/16" to avoid any bumping-over-the-edge occurring there.  What capacity mags are you using?

I had a few issues such as yours with my new 450B, I took some JB paste and CLP and made a slurry with it, I applied it to every surface that moves and contacts the upper and hand cycled the action around 75 cycles. I then cleaned the living crap out of it and it has operated flawlessly since that time. This is the procedure I have used for years on EVERY new AR.

Did you rub it on the feedramps?  My bro's upper seems like the ramps are extra sharp.

I did take a piece of emory cloth and the slurry and took the edges off the feed ramp's as well as taking a dremel with a sanding drum to the front of every mag as well. No failures whatsoever and has a silky smooth operation.
