Just got the RRA 458 upper and slapped that bad boy on my lower in waiting. Now it's time to get busy with gettin busy. Soooo, how bout some optics. What do you folks think of these: red dot 1 red dot 2 I know I know, cheap, you get what you pay for, etc. But any experience with this if it has any sort of hold up ability or not? |

Rhyno, I am with Cold. I would be willing to bet that either of those two optics would eventually go south on you with the 458. While the 458 is not a recoil monster, it has enough umph to blow out cheap glass. I had an Aimpoint on mine until my nephew took both of my aimpoints to Iraq. Right now I am running a couple of different scopes, and irons. As an aside, I have some pretty expensive glass on my AR system, but I have always been weak for "deals" on dots. I have munched at least 4 lesser quality red dot type scopes and Hakko style dots on my 458 and assorted big kicking handguns. I always thought what the heck, this scope is only 50-200 dollars (they varied in price), I'll give it a try. IF i had saved all of the money spent on cheapies, I could have had a nice Trijicon right now. FWIW, Craig |

I don't think you will be happy with either optic in the end and will wish you had saved up for a little better unit. I have seen several 458 socoms with Eotechs on them. I have used an Eotech on mine and it worked okay. I wanted more of a traditional optic and now have a simple 6x 42mm scope. I would like to put on a Trijicon 1-4x or similar. Save your money for a better scope/optic. Mike The optics you looked at would be fine on a 22 replica. |

If you must have a red dot sight NOW, go down to Walmart. They have various red dot sights. Like This Save your nickels while you have that. Get an EOTech in the end. The thing is that if the 458 recoil messes with the sight, you can always take it back to Walmart. You do not worry about shipping something to China, or just eating the cost. A new lower is no fun with out sights. Think if this as band-aid sights, they will get you out shooting-- quicker than having something shipped in. TJ |
