I received my Rock River SOCOM 458 upper today and I have a question....

Is it necessary to use the heavier buffer spring that is included with the upper? If not, What am I risking doing to my stock, etc.

Thanks for the help. Sorry for the newbie question.

Necessary, no. Advisable, maybe. I just got the RRA 458 up and running today. Even with the RRA heavy spring I could feel the buffer bottoming out in the tube. Some guys, OTOH, have problems with the heavy spring. Try it and if you have issues with the heavy spring run a normal CAR spring.

Mine runs fine with both the standard carbine buffer spring and the heavier one provided by RRA.

I have been using the RRA spring with no issues.
