Hey all,

I am looking for some optics for my 458 socom. I was seeing if any of you on here have one and what optic you have.

I have a 16" RRA carbine length upper. Most of the time this gun will be shooting at deer occasionally out to 200 yards. I might also hog hunt with it once or twice a year.

My father has Nikon Slughunter on his and hasn't had any problems with it.

I would like some magnification just to pick the point on the deer easier for a better shot.

I've saw a lot of people recommending getting a Leupold but I am not wanting to spend that much and then turn around and not like the scope. I have saw this Eo-Tech 512 on Primary Arms for $420 and you get a free 3x magnifier. I was thinking about this because I know if I don't like it on the 458 I can just put it on one of my other AR's.

Appreciate any insight from the hive.

I use a nikon monarch african 1-4x on mine.  Perfect for deer hunting.  Just don't skimp on a mount.  I went cheap and used pepr mount wouldn't hold up.  Switched to adm qd mount no issues.

Nikon monarch line is perfect for the 458.  Whether its made for slug guns or not is irrelevent.  Just use the spoton software plug in your optic and ballistic data and it will pop out your bullet drops.

I would recommend against an eotech with magnifier.  Its like looking through a straw.  Pretty useless.

I know the Eo Tech is deadly out to 200 yards because my uncle has killed two using his 458 and his Eo Tech. Just seeing what everybody else is using on theirs. Appreciate it.

I have an eotech and a 3x magnifier and im not to sure I would want to try that combo on my 458 socom . eye relief is pretty short with the magnifier and there is a good chance you could become a member of the dotted eye club.
I have a leupold mk4 cqt 1x3 power scope on mine and it works pretty good for the intended range of the 458 socom . just from personal experience with the 458 cheaping out on the optics results in more money spent replacing optics.
the nikon monarch line is a better quality built scope and would work well on the socom . I used a 2x7 leupold vx-2 on mine for a long time . weaver has a 1.5x6 euro super slam which would be a nice scope .

I've used an Eotech 512, Leupold VX-2 1x4 and Leupold VX-3 1.75x6 all with no problems.

I have one on my 8.5 inch cmmg 300 blackout and it works great .  Its about the best bang for the buck you are going to get for a quality red dot sight .  I have stuck my primary arms magnifier behind it to get a better zero at 100 yds , im not sure I would use the aimpoint or eatech with the magnifier for hunting as it does narrow the field of view.

I'm an EOTech fanboy through and through. But I'm not sure if I'd run one on a 458. I've heard of alot of issues on higher recoil AR's. then again it could work just fine tho

I see no reason an eotech wont work on a 458 socom , they use them on 12 guage shotguns .
to the O.P. I use the mount that come on the aimpoint pro its durable and returns to zero pretty well if you put it back in the same slot . If your asking about the magnifier I use the primary arms flip to the side quick disconnect mount since my eotech does not have the riser and I can use the magnifier behind it or my aimpoint .

Are you using the PA 3x regular or 3x long eye?

I use a Nikon slughunter on my .458 also.
Good scope.
I haven't had one issue with it also.

My muzzle loader is running the 250 gr. bullet at the same speed as the .458 socom

Been using the Burris Timberline for a few years, it lets me range out to 300 yds. It has long eye relief too.

I like the using line better than the circles on the Nikons.

Using an older model Leupold CQT 1-3 power.  No problems.  Was using a .308 reticle EoTech, but wanted some magnification.

I have went ahead and bought the Aimpoint pro. Got 45 dollars off of 225 from midway. My next is which mount I want to put on it.

I was thinking either:

Larue
or

American Defense
