Ok so I bought a 458 socom upper about 6 months ago. I finally found a box of ammo and bought it. Took the gun out yesterday for the first time and shot it and had issues.
Back Ground on the Rifle. Rock River stripped lower, built with a Rock River 2 stage trigger kit, Rock River buffer tube, carbine spring, standard carbine buffer with a Mako stock. Upper is a complete Rock River 16" 458 socom, Carbine length Gas system, and rock River Carbine length Free Float quad rail. Ammo used is the Corbon Hunter 458 Socom 300gr JHP Velocity 1900fps, Energy 2405 ft/lbs. Here's what I had. Fired First round, round fired, cycled, ejected, and loaded second round. Pulled trigger and no ignition. Pulled magazine and ejected live round. When I did, the primer from the first round ejected with the live round... Blown out primer in first round stayed with the bolt. Cleared the chamber, checked the barrel, all seemed fine. Reloaded the magazine, fired 2nd round, fired, cycled, loaded 3rnd round which fired, then didnt cycle the bolt completely causing a failure to eject and jammed the spent case against the next round trying to load. At this point I decided to call it a day and do some research. The cost of this ammo makes just sending rounds down range an issue...lol... Getting ready to start reloading for it so that will be less of an issue. I have heard Corbon (after I bought it) is very bad quality control. IS this likely an ammo related issues, or something else. Thanks for any input you can offer... Hoping to get this to cycle correctly with out spending $200+ in 50 rounds to get it dialed in... |

Generally, if you're blowing primers out it's taken as a sign from God that you should stop shooting for the day.
Saw some of this @ the gunshow this weekend: http://ammobiz.com/home I don't know anything about 'em other than they're local to me. |
| Corbon has always loaded things to the limit. That's their reputation, and in most rounds, stands them well. In the .458", you're getting too close to max hoop pressures to mess around - it's not a round to hot rod. Lighter bullets go plenty fast for as heavy as they are, and the subsonics are plenty heavy @ 1000 fps as they are. Handload safely and search for the most accurate load rather than the hottest. |

Sound advice and something that neds to be understood getting int this game. Thanks! ANd yea, CORBON makes some good +P manstoper pistol loads in a few calibers. |
