Just remember there are at least 2 different bolt specs, depending on whose barrel/extension you use.

The cheapest option is to open up a 5.45 bolt, is not hard to do (or have done).
I would be sure to check headspace with whatever bolt is used with 5.45 builds, to be safe.
Some bolts are just opened in diameter, some also are deeper (affecting headspace).

The Ballistic advantage and Spikes bolts appear to be the same spec, Model1 sales use different spec bolts.

What about extractor?  5.45 has much thicker rim than 5.56

You know about the surplus 5.45 ban, right?

The bolts that I modified were for a Spikes and a BA upper. These are deeper (and opened up face diameter), so there was no modification needed on the extractor. I believe the other standard does require a different extractor or a modification to a 5.56 extractor, this is where testing will prove what works. If at all possible, use a matched bolt from the manufacturer of your upper (or barrel/extension). I modified a few bolts using my original Spikes 5.45 bolt as my model. The dimensional difference is not that great, but must be done carefully, since headspace is determined by the interface of the bolt face to the barrel extension. Again, if possible get bolt recommended to match your existing barrel.
Who makes your barrel? I have one new AA bolt sitting in my spares, along with a couple modded bolts. The AA bolts are of the same standard as Spikes/BA.
I really do not know who all uses what as their spec, but yours must be done right. At that point, you'll love your new rifle- they are a hoot to shoot. HTH

May not be budget friendly, but on my $750 dollar budget pistol build I went with Ballistic Advantage bolt and barrel. 1k rounds later with 0 malfunctions I am glad I did.

They've been out of stock for about 2 weeks and in that time they went back up to the normal $89 cost.

Get the BA bolt and barrel.  These are the most important parts to ensure a 5.45 runs right (besides mags). You can cheap out on everything else.

+1 for BA

Also, they are deigned to work with a standard firing pin.

Ballistic Advantage produces the bolts for Spikes. Thiers is the only option if you don't want to be hemmed in with using a proprietary firing pin.
Besides, the B/A barrels are among the very best for the application.

Thanks guys . I have several 1000 rounds of 5.45 from my ak74 . Got the barrel the other day on the ee . Now im thinking about selling the barrel and going with a 300 bo seekins build . I got a seekins billet upper and lower the otherday . I have 3 builds going on right now . My thing with the 5.45 in a ar platform shooting crosive ammo is man how am i going to get all those parts clean .

Cleaning is easy. I put mine in the sink and run hot tap water thru the barrel, gas tube, and bolt assembly. I also rinse out the lower receiver for good measure. Then clean normally. It's really not as painful as I thought it was going to be.

I agree.  You read about some of the horror stories, but it is, at most, an extra 15 minutes added to cleaning.  I have shot thousands of rounds of corrosive and never had any corrosion issue at all.
