I want to take my ar out when scouting, and pop a coyote or two if I see one, so I need a 5 rd magazine. Anybody have experience with 5 rd mags. I couldn't find any other threads, sorry if this is a repeat topic.

I found these, they seem decently priced.

If you have a 20rd mag you can easily make a limiter out of wood that fits inside the spring.

Thanks, local shop wants $40 for theirs, so that sounds a little more reasonable.

I just bought a Thermold 5 round mag from a local shop for $14.  This will only be for hunting...The feel of the Thermold is nothing like that of a PMAG.  The PMAG just feels like it is of a higher quality.  I probably should have just bought the 5 found limiter for my 20 round PMAG.  Oh well, live and learn.

Brownell's sells a five-rounder by made by "John Masen."  I have two and they are great.  I use them shooting off the bench which is much easier than using a 20 or 30 rounder.

$19.99 or $16.78 if you have the discount.

I had problems with this one not always letting the bolt close all the way when fully loaded to 5 rounds.  With 4 it was fine.  But with 5 occasionally I would hit the bolt release then have to hit the FA a time or to to put it into battery.

Colt made a 5-round mag by blocking a 20-rnd mag with a metal insert and riviting the floor plate on.  Shipped two of them with every Colt Sporters in the 90's.  There are thousands of them out there.

Like NTPD183 mentioned, this plus this is another option. Unless you already have a 20rd PMag, it's a little more expensive, but it is a solid mag and you can easily switch between 20rds and 5rds.

If you have any 20rd pmags you can buy a 3 pack of mag blockers for around 10 bucks. They are made by magpul. I've been meaning to get some.
