Ive been working on this since probably about February 2015. I had it assembled once probably over a year ago but wasnt happy with some things so I tore it back apart and have tried to fix what I wasnt happy with. I got the upper in a trade some time ago and it had been arsenal refinished in that tough black coating. I had a member here strip and anodize it and it really didnt come out well. The color was off, and I learned the reason it had been refinished...it was corroded and pockmarked. So I asked around and found a guy to refinish it in norrells. He sanded out the corrosion areas and cleaned it up really well before shooting the norrells on it.
I think the upper came out really well. His contact info is: [email protected] if you need a retro upper refinished, I highly recommend him. Also I have to thank John Thomas for painting the handguards and refinishing the rear sight wheel, the color he can do is a perfect match, and live4nov for his help on this project. Breakdown of original parts: Upper receiver Rear sight assembly Charging handle Barrel is VP stamped Colt with C stamped extension SS early bend gas tube Type B stock and pistol grip, and pistol grip screw Pivot pin, takedown pin, and selector Buffer tube Bolt, carrier, big head firing pin, and chrome retaining pin. Magazine Now for some pictures 
I had to get the others out that complete the run of 01-04 with original uppers and barrels. (601 with VP, 602 with VP12, 603 with MVP12, and 604 with MP12) Backdrop is a 1956 John Deere 520

Its the most correct retro clone I own. The only non-original parts are the SS early bend gas tube as opposed to a carbon steel tube, the lower receiver, and springs and detents in the lpk. The trigger group is from a demilled xm16e1. Everything else is original, it really all started when I found the VP12 barrel locally for cheap and I started building from there. Its my favorite retro. The only part that bugs me is the upper receiver was coated in I think brownells alumahyde before I got it, and it really deserves a good anodizing job. I just never want to take it apart, wait, and pay up $ to send it to us anodizing. What type of barrel was bid up to $1600?

That is beautiful. You have really awesome rifles. It was an MV P barrel. I really thought the other buyer would drop out but who ever it was kept going. At 1600 I had to stop. That is the cost of another rifle I really want... Kudos to the buyer though. . |

The 602-603-604 all have no-drain handguards.
Was it a cast FSB MVP barrel? Thats the only explanation for that price...right?  Was it on gunbroker?

No it as a barrel only. Cast FSB. I cant find the auction anymore on GB for the 602. I cant believe a forged FSB MVP12 barrel sold for that.

The barrel I'm talking about is different, just want to make that clear so there's no confusion haha.
And I think he's talking about another one. I can't find the auction I'm thinking of but I remember tan or grey carpeting in the background of the photos. Not sure if it's the same one but the barrel was a vp 12 and had a cast fsb if I remember correctly. |
