Hi

Building a 602 have a correct 602 barrel that has the early fsb with no drain hole but has the arrow that is the recessed one. From what I read it is supposed to have the cast type with the arrow that is raised like the one for the 601. Is this true? I have two cast fsb with the raised arrow that I could put on the barrel, is this impossible to do? Never have taken off a fsb before.

Anyone know of a place to get a 602 upper from?

Thanks

It's not very difficult to remove the sight block. Remove the gas tube roll pin and drive out the two sight block pins remove your flashhider and tap the sight block forward to remove.

Putting another FSB on can be the tricky part. The pins are not going to align properly, but if you have the tools, it can be done.

As for a 602 upper, your best bet is to just watch the EE and Gunbroker. Failing that, you could always make one out of a 604 upper. I have a 604 upper that is midway to either a 601 or 602, just can't decide which.

Which tools do I need any tricks to get the pins to line up? Can you redrill them? Would you want to?

Yes, you can redrill. That's not really an issue. The biggest issue is getting the FSB straight on the barrel while you're doing the drilling. There was a guy who made a jig over in either the Build it Yourself or AR Discussion forum, but I can't recall who it was. A jig would be great to use with a drill press. I had neither. My solution (which I didn't come up with - saw some pics of a fellow doing something similar online) was to attach the barrel to a beater upper, then turn the whole shebang upside down and place it on a flat surface. Then I aligned the 'ears' on the FSB and upper so that they were all touching and visually checked the alignment. I clamped it all down pretty tight using a C-clamp through the FSB and another through the carry handle on the upper. I also put a microfiber cloth between the C-clamp and the metal. Anyway, once I had it all aligned and secure, I slowly (I repeat, slowly!) drilled the new holes using a 1/8" bit (make sure you have a good one). You'll need a 2/0 taper pin reamer to ream the new holes (from right-to-left, mind you - look at how the pins are installed on the current barrel), and then once the holes are properly reamed, you install the new taper pins. Simple as pie, no?

Of all the 601 and 602 uppers I have found.....  Which were Five -601's. I only found two 602's.  One I kept one and the other I sold.
FYI- I have no more 601's either.
