would a barrel marked 'C MP B' be proper for a 604 rifle???
No other marks on the barrel. |

Yes it would for a 1970-1974 604. Then it would be proper for the later 604 and not the early 604??? I seem to have most of the parts for a early 604, this was not an intentional gathering of parts. I just happen get every thing out at once and an early 604 jumped out, all 'cept the barrel anyway. If the barrel (C MP B) was for the later 604 then it might possibly have been installed on a early 604?? I'm stretching transition here..... :O) You may be able to tell I dont wish to hunt for another barrel. |

An early 604 could have had the barrel replaced.
So you'd have a "coulda happened" rifle. I have several "coulda happened" rifles myself. As long is it doesn't bother you, go ahead and build it with that barrel. If it ends up bothering you, then it is time for an M16A1 build. Hey you already got a late barrel for it. |

I used a "later" C MP C barrel for my "early" 604 build. A1-profile barrels are hard enough to find as it is, let alone in good condition and with correct markings. Besides, I like the fact that it's chrome-lined; after all, the military ordered that change for a reason! |
| Considering the system of arsenal rebuilds and so on, just about any "coulda happened" rifle you can think of (especially considering models the Air Force used) probably did happen. A CMP B barrel combined with older parts wouldn't bother me personally in the least. I've built a 603 build like the 604 you describe: early furniture/upper, etc with a later barrel. |

Thats good then I have a viable barrel. Couple of other questions. I have a Type 'D' stock (the white hole in the end) with pistol grip and hand guards that match very well, it fact they look to be a set, but I dont remember when/where I got them. Type 'D' would be correct for a early 604? yes..... Also have an early bend gas tube, where these used on the 604? Any help appreciated. |
