On the Model 605 Carbine, what is the true barrel length? I have been offered a mid-length 14.7" barrel, and am curious if that would be long enough? Anybody that knows, please advise. |

Anybody that knows, please advise. 14.7 is the size you need to pin just the FH and washer on to get it out to 16". I've been wanting a 14.7 light weight middy. Got pics! Feed my desire! But this barrel will not be for a 605 build. 605's use the rifle length gas system. This has the mid length. |

15" IIRC. Pinning the FH is a must. Mine has a pinned replica 601 FH. Heatnbeat did an incredible job on mine. Morg I always wondered if you could have extra long threads on the barrel and thread the flash hider deeper. Anyone ever tried that? The thought being that the barrel itself is still 16" but it threads deeper into the FH and you can't tell unless you look inside the FH. Know what I mean? |

I don't think that will get you to 16" if you want the FH up against the FSB as per original. True, but you might get another 1/2" off of OAL by threading a FH deeper. Worth a try for someone in some circumstance. I wonder how flash and noise would be affected. |

I don't think that will get you to 16" if you want the FH up against the FSB as per original. I'm wondering if the threads inside the FH can be extended towards the front. If the barrel was 16" but threaded all the way to the FSB, then slip a washer on and the FH could then be threaded down with the longer threads being hidden under the three prong or bird cage of the FH. Dig? I know I aint explaining it right. I are ignernt. |

That worked on my 9 mm setup, but only because of the setback of the 9 mm barrel. |

I understand what you are saying, I just don't think unless you want the slots filled by barrel that it will work. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/Morg308/6052_zps7629925c.jpg Makes sense to me now. Yea it would block the slots. I KNEW there was a reason it hasn't been done yet! I remember that one 5437! Cool solution to the stoopit Gub'ment's asinine rules! Thanks all. |

When Pat (45Bravo) was making XM177E2 barrels with moderators ,he ran the barrel all the way into the moderator coming just short of the slots,, he also offered some ban compliant 3 prongs using the same technique (reamed the inside of the FH and ran the barrel to the end of the prongs),,and IIRC had also done some bird cages that way as well. He was "ahead of his time" in his thinking,,,to bad we lost him to his "real" job.... ...

I believe you are thinking about something like this, but on a 605. I replaced the 607 modulator with an XM177E2 modulator on this 16 inch barrel that went on my XM177E2. http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag132/58Bisc/guns/87A1543C-934C-48D9-88F1-BFAB2A8B1E8A_zpsbaiawsfy.jpg http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag132/58Bisc/guns/7FA07BE4-7F25-47A2-876C-572C4007988D_zps14sogig5.jpg This ^^^^^^^^ looks exactly like what 45Bravo was doing. |

Did you do the machining ? |
| I was just starting to get interested in Retros when 45Bravo was having issues keeping up with the work he took on, which I believe was his downfall. I don't know the whole story as I was quite new back then and actually came here looking for him, but saw a thread where he had people's barrels for something like a year. |
