| Very nice. 605's kinda grow on you. I've got most the pieces to do one stashed. Always a barrel short it seems. Not sure the filling in engraving does as much for it as the 01 but it's kinda your trademark. Possiblt the lighting. Does make it a little different than most all the rest I've seen and it's still sweet regardless. Hope it shoots great. |

Stunning, what kinda silencer is that? Thanks! It's a YHM phantom QD. It doesn't have the prestige Of a advanced arms, but I get the same reduction in DBs And a lifetime warranty , it's built like a tank. It's nice to use at the range , but the downside is It really gets a gun dirty |

Ya I'll admit it's hard to control myself of the color fill , and those DOD stamps . But I blame retroblackrifle on this one. He has a pic of a nice color Filled. 605 over there ,,,, so why not . But I do have plans to do it to a few more rifles So it very well could become a trademark |
| OP, I wasn't trying to criticize but probably came out that way. Just hope you didn't take it that way. You seem to be very good at filling the engraving, probably as good as anyone in reality. White just looks really white on my PC's big screen on your 605 build. Guessing first oil down will darken a bit. The model 01 looked just like all the reference pics IMO. 605 is awsome and my opinion means very little, was just repeating what pics were saying to me. Reason I asked about lighting as I'm guessing it was same paint or whatever you use. I've never been a fan of coloring a battle rifle's engraving but the 01 pics changed my mind rather quickly. The 605 not as much. Possibly the green furniture vs the black effects the brightness a bit also. |
| I got 605 fever thanks to Morg and am cobbling it together today (day off). I don't have a 605 upper so a 604 will have to do for now, I did go with a 601 3 prong, but damn bro that Can looks Sexy as can be! I have all my retro AR's out today and noticed 0 of them have forward assists. 602 unfinished(Type C stock is going out for repair), Early 604, Late 604, 605 unfinished, XM177E2 Air Force Model, (Once JT does my barrel, it's done). I do have several modern builds, and C7, FN A2 clones w/ FA's but don't include them as Retros. |

FWIW I'm going to say it one more time: ALL 605's used 604 uppers. There is no such thing as a 605 upper, just 'milled 604' uppers. NDS calls them a 605 upper because of one pic in TBR where they used one. If you look at other pics of 605's they use regular 604 uppers - there were far more 604s built with that upper than 605s, since 605s were extremely rare. They just ran out of 604 forgings and milled off the FA area to meet AF contracts. I only say this periodically to remind people, NOT because I have any problem with it being called a 605 upper frankly. It makes perfect sense to me, and we all know what you are talking about when you say '605 upper'. I only do this for the new guys, so they understand what the real uppers (which are rare as hen's teeth) were, where they came from, and how they were used. I think they both look great on 605 builds frankly. I used a regular 604 upper, but it's a round forge, so techinically not 'correct' for a 605, as it would use an earlier upper...but then, I still have the flash forge on the FSB and a Chrome bore barrel too. |

On the 601 I mixed a drop of yellow to try to " dirty up " the white a little. The 601 in the pic I was referencing was actually done in yellow.. But it seemed too much. I'll prob take your advice and hit the 605 with a little oil. , Maybe take some of the brightness out of the white. I don't think colored filled 605s were common, but that's ok. The opinions of this group matter to me , because none of my friends Have a clue about the " old crap" |

I'd really love to put a starlight scope on it, and eventually one will pop up For the right price at a show. Although I have no practical Use for it .... Damn it would look cool! IMHO The Starlight Scope looks weird (Too Big) on an M16, but I'd like to put one on an M1A someday, but someday I want a lot of things. |

Nice. Did you engrave the autosear pin hole? I'm thinking of doing something similar on an A1 I have almost completed. Yes sir , it might be hard to see . I need to hit it with a little paint To try and match the other pins . Member braceman does it when He engraved the lower |

VERY nice 605! How did you do the color-fill. I've used grease pencil (china markers) on my UZIs, HK-51, AK, and PPS-43, but I think your process looks better than mine. I might want to re-do mine. Thanks ! Since norrells claims their finish to be chemical Resistant I used testers model paint and laquer thinner . I've done it this way a few fines and it had zero effect on The norrells or the Anadizing . |
