I recently bought a 607 faux moderator because I thought it looked unique and i'd never seen one before. I can't seem to find much information on them though. I'm wondering if anyone here knows how well the originals worked compared to the XM177 moderators? I can't help but think that if the originals worked well they wouldn't have made and switched to the XM177 moderators.
Any help on this search for info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! *EDIT* Changed 605 to 607 |

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a 605 with a moderator on it. I don't think the moderators ever changed other than adding flash hider slots to the end. Nice catch! I had to go back and check I got mixed up when posting this. I was referring to a 607 Moderator. |

IIRC, The XM 4.5" are the same internally but they added one inch as a flash hider to the front. As far as sound suppression they made the short barrels sound about like the 20" guns. I'm sure someone will come by and correct me on something The drawings I have from when I was making CAD models of them has a date of 1966 on the title block, so the same core being used for both seems like it could be a correct assumption at least by time period. Dimensions for the XM's case also show that when removing the portion for the slots at the front you'd end up with about the 607's moderator length wise. Just a thought. |
