where can you get a non NFA looking 607 mod these days. I emailed Pat who used to make them but have not heard from him.

Does anyone besides me think one of those would look cool on a 605? it might,,,,but, it doesn't get any cooler than this http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s147/crackedcornish/DSC02475.jpg Majestic |

Let me just say I have something a little 'different' planned for my 605. |

I'm not wanting to derail this thread but I was wondering if a rifle like the one pictured runs reliably with the 10" barrel? Were any modifications to the gas port necessary? What weight buffer is it running? Thanks. I use an H1 buffer in my 10" barrels... Whatever size port hole is in a JTdoublestar 10.5 inch barrel. IMO a JT A1 profile barrel with the FSB smoothed over, reparked and modded for taper pins is a very good clone. |

I thought I'd be safe from seeing a 605 in this 607 thread, but no Cracked... you just have to push me closer to falling off the edge and building one. hey, Morg brought it up, so what else could I do but run with it .....besides you know you want one!! |
|
Sent ya a pm on the MOD
I am making up a few of these.........I thought one would be cool to do up in 5,45x39 caliber just for fun. Now i have to see if the barrel i got for the DOE 9 is going to work! I just have to decide on my plans for NFA items Corp or individual |

Hmm, I wonder who could make those for you? Any ideas? Hi Morg been awhile........ Anyone here have the FLAMING PIG? Dont have one, but how is that cut on the inside? From my understanding it reduces flash among other things. Maybe the 607moderator inside could be machined be similar to the pig???? Just a thought..... |

Just a thought..... that would get expensive...probably cheaper to buy a pig and lengthen it, if you really need it to be 3.5"s instead of the standard pig length pig dimensions: 7.2 ounces 1.35 inch Dia 3.28 inch OAL pics from the net... http://exoticsbynature.com/ksf/photo-3.JPG http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac314/AR15_Oly1/DSCN4737.jpg funny how old is new and new is old......hummm it would not be to hard to macnine that radius on the inside of a 607 mog Why would you want to remove it? Just eliminate the removable option that you show in the pig amd that would keep cost down |

Just eliminate the removable option that you show in the pig amd that would keep cost down A. I think it would look better at the muzzle end B. It should reduce flash at least a little bit, similiar to the 'trumpet' cone - style flashhiders commented on in a recent thread. Can't see that the current 607 moderator does anything except add weight and look cool. Just an idea. IIRC the originals would not have looked like this, because there wouldn't have been room for any baffles, but I'm being practical here. IIRC b_rogers, didn't you build a moderator using tubing, which I would bet is pretty effective flash - wise, but would likely ring like a Vortex. I'm thinking something between the two would be nice. Again, not being historically accurate as much as practical. |

If someone is making the Faux 607 Mod with the pig insides, I would be up for buying one or two.....or three. Best of both worlds.... It would have the 607 looks and also help keep the short barrel gas pressure up for an increase in reliability. (Kinda like the Krinks use...) |

One has been made, braceman made this not long ago For me, it's hard to tell from the pic but he milled It cone shaped inside http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj633/TRIMDAD/49971FE4-CCF3-48EE-BD79-27A6E6AC040C-3986-0000043102EA01A1.jpg Trimdad could you measure the OD of that for me? |

FWIW, there does not seem to be any evidence that the KX3 does anything to increase back pressure, and all such verbiage is long gone from Noveske advertising as well. I would suspect that anything designed today that was muzzle-mount and had the ability to capture and direct enough gas to appreciably add back pressure would probably end up being classified as a suppressor - much like the original moderators themselves. The KX3 is nothing more than a big, heavy, overtly complex conical flash hider. That being said - I would have to agree that faux-3.5" moderators without baffles are little more than barrel extensions, while 4.5" models at least have the conical portion and flash suppression slots. I reckon if you were going to go with a faux 3.5" moderator, you may as well get it function like a conical flash hider. ~Augee |

Trimdad could you measure the OD of that for me? Sure, I'll tell you that I'm not sure how accurate my demensions are Vs a original. I ordered one from 45 bravo a year ago ,,,, still waiting,,,,,,waiting,,,,, So a asked braceman to make one. I took the outside diameter From my xm style moderator ( 45 bravo) and I guessed at the length . http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj633/TRIMDAD/F3445A1B-3679-44B7-8775-C30890F2DEE9-131-0000001C9C46A0AD.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj633/TRIMDAD/59DD6625-F214-45F2-B860-814E207887F4-131-0000001CA5B335A5.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj633/TRIMDAD/CE0BEE15-F16D-462A-92B1-3E915A906AD1-131-0000001CB07978BE.jpg[/quote] Thanks man! Morg, the one i built has a a2ex FH in it so it has a conical type opening but no slots.. |
FWIW that one braceman made for Trimdad looks just about like what I was talking about. I would love a moderator like that. For what, I don't know. I'm about done buying parts just so I can sell them off when I'm not working. I hate to say this, but I'm about done with this 'hobby'. Three times now I've gotten within a whisker of having several builds done, and three times I've had to sell off my builds. It's past frustrating frankly. I would do better by putting the money into other things.

Speaking of 607s, my 607 project is lacking just an SBRed barrel. And the paperwork I should mention. Not sure that will ever happen now... |
| Well I can make them however you wish, but the real ones I have seen are just as they are shown on this page. They have a .250 deep x .375Dia counterbore on the muzzle end. These are aproximate measurements and should not be taken as correct measurements to make a moderator, I am not an engineer or lawyer and did not stay at a holiday in express last night :) All kidding aside, I don't have my drawings handy but that the way the real deal is made, I can make them however you like though. |

I too would like to purchase a faux 607 moderator (visual only, not functional). As has been mentioned, the weight of these is an issue. Pigs though, do help greatly with the sound and concussion levels from the operators perspective on 10-10.5" barrels. I've not shot one of the originals, so I can't speak to how they compare. Also cannot speak to the backpressure issue. Trimdads version looks slightly different from the real deals I've seen pictures of. The neck at the wrench flats looks longer than the images I've seen.
This thread among several others shows pictures of the real deal: http://www.ar15.com/mobile/topic.html?b=3&f=123&t=296919&page=2. It would great if someone here would tool up and make some of these. I would vote for original exterior dimentions and would lean towards the conical design because of the possible affect and weight savings; but like the visual of the original small opening. |
