Hey all.... well my 656 project is complete .

First thanks to John Thomas who did the parkerizing .
- aeyoung , who was kind enough to mail his original , irreplaceable scope mount
Across the country to someone he has not met for someone he has not met.
So braceman would have it to template.
- and the braceman ...,, who did a outstanding job making the front sight base,
Upper , 80% lower and scope mount. Increadible job thank you!

Almost all of the gun , minus the stocks, port door and sight.
was build using  reproduction or new parts. The trigger is a rock river two stage match.
Lower parts kit is also RR.  The carrier at the moment is a RR but I'm going to
Swap it with a youngs manufacturing . The barrel is a heavy match criterion ,

The scope.....when this started I'll admit I didn't give the scope a lot
Of thought... I didn't think it would be too hard to find,, lol I was wrong.
The ART in the 656 pics you see has a foil sticker on it. This threw me off for a while
And mistakenly had me looking at ART2s . Which aren't hard to find.
Eventually I realized I was looking at the wrong scope.

I searched 5 sights multiple times every day for the better part of a year trying to find the right one at the right
Price. I missed two great deals but no luck. Finally I placed WTB adds on 4 or 5 sights
And that paid off. I actually ended up with three.

Most ART scopes are a anodized a dark bronze. Or turned bronze over time.
The ones on the 656s are flat black .... with a foil sticker.
Until I got one, Id never seen a flat black realist for sale, and couldn't
Find any info on it.  So I called iron sight for info.
Apparently what I have is a extremely rare first run leatherwood ART2 scope ...built with ART
Parts. So the out side is ART, inside is ART 2. Iron sight had never seen one.
I still plan on having a ART foil sticker made.

Correct sticker

And the gun

Enjoy!

Seriously a work of art.  Now since you will be bored, you can make a period correct crate, custom delivery tag, manual, and other accessories to really fill out the pics!  the furniture looks pristine too, did you do something special or just get really nice old stock?

Wow, that rifle showcases talent on so many levels! I'm sure you have to be proud of it.....

I'll let someone else ask the big question....

Mr Trimdad you have raised the bar again.

Dat dare weapon is very, very nice.  Thank you very much for sharing.

Looks like it would be fantastic for shooting Jacks or Bingo's. What's the twist 1-9 ?  2nd the "Hope it shoots great." I almost like your build  better than a real one.

Mike62---Ya know I originally wanted to do just that. I was going make a military type
Box to hold the upper and a small one for the scope. With some tags.
But i couldn't wait to get it put together .
I could have waited another year but once it was in my hand it was killing me
To wait for the last few parts I was short. Lol

I still might make the boxes.

The stocks I sprayed with alluma Hyde 2 semi gloss black.
It's a dead match for early shiny stocks.  This should probably have dull stocks....
But I like it this way...... I might change it later. Damn OCD

Jntmjt1---Thank you sir. And thanks for the help

Thanks man. She took a while but it was worth it

[#14]
2020----Thanks man. Every time brace would say he was going to work on it...
I'd tell him to hold off and send him something else to work on. Lol
And we lost a year looking for a scope .The time involved actually helped as better pictures And info
Has come out.

Wow!

That's incredible!

Thanks for sharing her with us.

Getchasum--oh yea. This was my retro holy grail. Braceman was just
The poor unlucky bastard to say yes to this project.
I begged half a dozen others before he showed up. Lol

[#17]
Cdenmark---Thank you sir, I appreciate it.

Barrel..... I think is 1/9. I'll have to check.
The set up is actually really comfortable . Scope is the right height
And good eye relief . I usually don't shout the things for a while. I just move on to the next .
But I'm dying to shoot this

Thank you sir and agreed. There are some very talented people
In this group. I don't think there is a retro model that can't be cloned at this point

Aw, Man. The bar is set very, very high now.

AWWWsome project and execution.

Something interesting I forgot to mention.
When this project started there wasn't a lot of info to be had.
And no good pics.  So I called the one place that had some.....
Knights arms. I figured the worst they could do was say no.... but they were actually very helpful.
With the help of their head of acquisitions I was able to get some info from Reed knight and some great pictures
Taken for me by their in house photographer .
I know  they check this forum so thanks for the help!

The gun is correct in most details but the rear sight.
The real one is a lot like a enfields sight.... but it was too time consuming to make and
No point considering it will never get used. And at the time I got the pics brace had already
Had it made. Lol

I would post pics,,, but I was asked not too.

That is OUTSTANDING! Both you and Braceman should be commended for taking the time and effort to bring this to fruition. This is the 2nd 656 clone I know of, and both are beautiful. Really fantastic, Trimdad!

WOW! This build is over the top! The talents and determination of the hive has no limits. This is one of the only builds I have not done in the 600 series and yet it is one that I would most like to add to my collection of sniper rifles. Thanks for forging the path. Looks like I'll need to start saving my allowance again and stop work on the Land Cruiser and start acquiring parts for a 656!

That's a beautiful thing, Trimdad.
As others have said this really captures all the finest elements of our little hobby here:

--Inspiration,
--Research,
--Craftsmanship,
--Collaboration,
--Creativity,
--Perseverance,
--Patience,
--A little luck,
--And (we'll assume) a fair buttload of cash.

She's a fine example of the retro art.  Thanks for sharing!

You know, Trim.  It would be nice to see you put a little effort into these things now and then.  I know it's easy to just slap a bunch of shit you bought on Midway together, but come on.  Put in a little work!
