I've read a lot of googled docs about this cartridge and did a search or 2 here on AR15.com - didn't find anything here.

What's the word?

In my opinion and based on what I've read, the 6.5Grendel is an excellent long range cartridge - but brass can be an issue. I don't want to mess with new mags and bolts. I want to swap out a barrel and go to town.
I'm pretty sure the 6.5MPC will not give me the same ballistics as the Grendel (because of lower case capacity in the MPC), but it should be an excellent sub 500 yard cartridge.

I can go either 6.5MPC or hot loaded 300 Whisper, which would defeat the purpose of the whisper, right?
Any word on 6.5 Whispers? Maximum velocity without pressure issues?

What say you?

sticking with a .223 case head size can be a limitation.

the 7.62x40mm (like a 300whisper extended) and the .25x40mm (.257 wildcat) may be worth a look.

The whisper is very versatile, you do not have to go subsonic.   There are several nice 110-125 grain bullets which get good velocity.

Like most things, depends on what you want to do with it.  The thing with 6.5 bullets, is they tend to be very long an thin,  so they eat up a lot of case capacity-- which you don't have much of to start with in the 6.5 MPC.

The MPC is at its best with the 85 to 108 gr bullets.

I'd stick with the 100gr Lapua Scenar, 100gr Nosler BT and Partition, lastly, the Hornady 95gr V-MAX.

ETA: I don't have issue with Grendel Brass, but then I do not fire it like I do my 5.56 rifles either.

I see your point. I've seen velocities of the Whispers going into the 2300fps range. Match that with excellent bullet construction and you are packing quite a whallop.
I'm basically looking for something with the punch and ability of the 7.62x39 - plus additional range, while retaining standard AR15 mags and bolt.
I like the 6.5 diameter cartridges for their great SD and BC - but I can see that you can't use quite the long high SD bullets in it that you can in some other cartridges, which is why I also asked about the 6.5 Whisper.

The ideal would be a 6.5mm 100 to 120gr bullet moving at 2300 to 2600 FPS using the .223 as a parent cartridge.

I read the threads on the 7.62x40 - very interesting cartridge indeed. I'll go look at it some more. Might be the way to go.

there are a couple versions of the 6.5 whisper, but neither one enjoys half the success of the 300.

that 25 is interesting too:

The 6.5 MPC can meet your 2,450 +/- needs easily with the 100gr Lapua Scenar bullet and a 16" barrel, so can the .25x40 round, using the 100gr Sierra M-K.
