| I want a Grendel in the worst way but the barrels get pretty pricey. How is accuracy in a button barrel compared to a cut rifled barrel? |
| You can get a good quality 16" stainless middy from AA for around $270 including bolt. I went this route for my Recce build and it has served me well. Already got a deer with it this season. I measured 2500fps and faster with a chrono placed 10 ft from the muzzle. That was using Hornady's new 123gr AMAX factor load. |

I'm going to be in soooo much trouble if the wife finds out... But all this talk of a Grendel is too much for me to take...
I'm ordering the 24" AA barrel tomorrow... I pitched Jen at AA a question today asking the barrel performance difference between the ER Shaw and the match barrels (factoring out the human/environment variables) She couldn't answer so pitched it to her technical guru... I'm expecting to hear back tomorrow. I'm not expecting Camp Perry performance, but would like to hit the target with kills and/or pin the ears back... From what I understand, I'll be the limiting factor, not the barrel... Bruce - IM'd... |

Got the IM...
Good info guys. I want to shoot far (maybe out to a grand sometimes) but I will mostly use this for 600 and closer. Hunting will be the secondary use out to as far as my reloads and research can justify. If a $300 barrel will do the job then thats the ticket. I really dont want to spend double on a barrel when I will be the limiting factor in the accuracy. |
