recently purchased my 1st AR, a Spikes 5.45 upper on Spikes lower, so am somewhat new to "building" an AR (the only thing i assembled was the spikes stripped lower, LPK and buttstock kit)
reason im asking is i bought a YHM 6.8SPC marked upper receiver(stripped) from a friend of mine for $45 so now that i have that i was looking at getting a DD 1/10twist 18" barrel or Wilson Combat 1/11 16" SS barrel, any suggestions on which twist to go with ? what else would i need that is 6.8specific if i decide to go forward with this ? i know i need a 6.8bolt, will a regular AR BCG work with the 6.8bolt, and will i need a different firing pin ? |

1:10 is perfectly OK for most people and factory loads. The guys trying to wring every last inch/sec out of their loads prefer the slower twist rates since they result in lower pressures. I wouldn't call it OK, but rather merely adequate.... Like 1:9 for 5.56 adequate. |

I don't know if that is a good analogy... while 1:9 for 5.56 is still SAFE to shoot, 1:10 for 6.8SPC (especially if it has the SAAMI spec chamber) may not be the best idea if you use the higher pressure 6.8 ammo. |

It uses a different shaped lug. |
