Is there any appreciable advantage to having an 18 inch barrel over a 16 inch barrel when using 6.8 SPC for mid-range shooting out to 300-500 yards?

Thanks!

Quick answer? here? about 50 fps, 300 may be important, 500 important enough.

I like an 18 but thats just me.

Unless you're cleaning houses or doing a lot of vehicle driving, I'd prefer the 18 inch so I can extract more out of the cartridge.  I just build a 7.62x39 and I opted for the 20 inch barrel.

You know, after all that I have read here, I still can't figure out which of the 18" to buy.  I really wanted one that was Ion Bonded or something similar, but I can't seem to find one.

I offer all my barrels with an IonBond DLC coating.  I happen to have all four sizes with IonBond DLC in-stock.  You can buy them right from the Web Store  HERE, just pick a barrel and add the IonBond option.  I can ship the next day after receiving your order.

As to your question regarding 16" versus 18", I wrote a long piece about that subject here:  Ask Mr. 6.8.

In a nutshell, there is not enough difference in velocity and trajectory to be worth worrying about.  You should go with the one that you are most excited about.  Barrel length does not affect inherent accuracy, but a longer barrel is easier to shoot accurately.

All in all I sell more 16" SBR barrels than anything else, with the 16" light and 18" about even for second place.

Hope this helps.
