I want to do a 6.8 SPC build. I have been reading around and found Kotonics to be a good upper. Is this true? Which barrel length is better 16 or 18? Also, can anyone recommend a good lower?

Thanks

A good lower, well anything which is in spec should work fine. CMT/STAG, RRA, Bushmaster, LMT, CMMG, and the list goes on...should all work fine for your build.

As far as a good upper. My first 6.8 was a Stag, then after finding the round a lot of fun to shoot and use for some other things, I opted for a second upper. I bought a barrel from Ko-Tonics 18 inch SS and have loved it. Now, between 16 and 18 inches, thats preference. Are you going to be reloading or shooting factory ammo only?

It would most likely be factory and some reloads bought at gunshows

Go with Ko-tonics or Denny's for the upper and any mainstream lower.   Stag, CMT, CMMG, Colt, Mega, etc..

I just got a Ko-tonics (Cardinal Armory) 16" for my build, absolutely wonderful barrel. I have never heard bad about a barrel coming from them, they are very accurate, affordable, and probably one of the best if not the best barrel out for the 6.8. The 6.8 was designed for use in short barrels, with factory ammo it uses about 98% of the available powder in the 16" barrel, you only get something like 36fps more out of an 18" bbl. Other than that barrel length is ur preference, both lengths work well. What do you intend to use the rifle for? Are you going for a RECCE/SPR style or a Carbine style?

You can do like I did - Buy one of both!

Man I still say, if you're primarily shooting factory ammo and on a budget those RRA uppers are awful hard to beat.

I mean props to kotonics for their promotion of the 6.8SPC but these 6.8 threads are becoming little more kotonics adds. There are damn good alternatives In the long run it will be better if lots of companies are selling 6.8 SPC products.

I can't disagree with the RRA being certainly cheaper and the barrels are proving to be accurate.  The only thing I can't get around is: If you would like to get a KT or if you believe they are better, but you want to save money so you go with the RRA.  The main reason being you shoot nothing but factory.  I don't see how a extra hundred or some is an issue for someone planning on shooting factory ammo over the long term.  Now I understand if you just have a certain amount of $ and getting more would be a long term thing.  You need to have enough money left over to get some of that ammo after the ppurchase.  But doing it to just save money, when you plan to be only shooting factory ammo, doesn't personally make sense.  The difference in price is going to be nothing but a drop in the bucket compared to what you are going to be putting out for ammo over any real period of time. We are talking what a few hundred rounds .  That could be nothing more then a few days plinking with friends.  But again for someone that can not budget it for whatever reason the RRA offers a good upper at a great price.

My 16" Kotonics upper was shooting an easily under 1" group at 50 yards with an aimpoint ml3.  My other 6.8 upper which is a WOA 18" SS barrel is the most damn accurate barrel I've ever shot.  Two different barrels in two way different price ranges though.

Those are my findings as well.  For the money you can't get a better barrel then then Ko-Tonics.  Also for the money you can't get a better performing barrel then the WOA from a Wilson blank.  They are directed at different price points. Funny thing is the Kotonics out performs many non CL barrels and is one the most accurate CL barrel I have ever seen.
The WOA I have actually out performs other barrel that come from some popular names.  Now a Bartlein or Krieger it isn't but its very good.  I was surprised at how well it performed.
