Can anyone tell me what caliber a 6.8 is? My dad just bought a AR from a guy and it came with 6.8 ammo. In inches it's .277_____same diameter pills as .270 Winchester. You might want to verify which chamber you have. Check the barrel for a caliber stamp or take it to a qualified gunsmith. Early chambers should not be fed high pressure ammo. 6.8 SPC II is the final design and 11 twist is considered the best all around twist rate. |

I did the research and came up with what you have. From what I read, it's basically like a sniper rifle. The longer the range on it the more the velosity. Right?? Hehehe....I think you both jumped on a fast moving train. The 6.8 was developed as an intermediate combat caliber that offered more knockdown power and more range than 5.56. It throws a heavier chunk of lead at somewhat lower velocities than 5.56. It was not adopted outright by the military but when civilians got a hold of it, it proved to be an outstanding deer and hog cartridge. The caliber is very popular in hog country. It's expensive to shoot if you're not a handloader (compared to 5.56).....about $1.00 per round, average, but it's a very effective caliber. For a hunter, it's the same as any hunting caliber ....you pay to play. |

Can your dad get some more info on the rig or maybe post some pics so we can help identify the barrel? |
