that caliber would just be a bit of improvement over the .223, but in the ar platform you have so many different cal. uppers to choose from....you gots 223wssm/243wssm/25wssm/7.62x39/6.8spc/50beowulf/458socom/6.5grendel....too many to list

I've got a 6X45 barrel on order.  The advantage over a .556 for deer size game is a slightly heavier bullet.  With proper shot placement, it should do the job well.

I'm getting about 30% more energy out of my 6 x 45 than I do out of my 5.56/223.  While 30% is nothing to sneeze at, the 6 x 45 is not a big-game caliber for everyone.  It's extremely accurate and easy to load for.  The brass is just as cheap as 5.56/.223 and the upper conversion is cheap as all you have to change is the barrel.

If you want a true big-game caliber that's versatile and the ammunition is commercially available then get a WSSM upper.  They are more expensive and more expensive to shoot but they are a "true" big-game option for an AR-15.

I am also looking at the 6x45, but more for varmints than deer. Have other caliber choices for that.
The first time I was aware of 6x45 barrels for the AR15 was from a dealer named Old Sarge believe his company was based in Texas. This was back in the late 70's and have wanted one ever since, there will be one in my future soon. Have to agree with Dtech1 that the option of using the WSSM would be better, but if you are already hunting deer with the 5.56x45 then the 6x45 gives you more.
