I'm contemplating a 6x45 build and would like the input of those currently using it.
By my calculations (Sierra 6)... Using a Swift Scirocco 90 grain bullet (B.C. .419) at 2750 from a 24" tube, the round retains 500 ft lbs of energy out to 625 yards and remains supersonic out past 1000 yards. This seems like it may be worth it. What are you guys seeing for 24" velocities? Second, can the 90's even be utilize in an AR? I've heard some say that 80-85 is max due to length. I like the 6.8, but discounted it due to its proprietary nature. I thoroughly enjoy my Blackout! Please discuss. |
| I don't know anything about 24" tubes, BUT I run a 18" and it is hell on coyotes, deer, and even a javelina. I tun the 55 nosler bt for coyotes and the sierra 85 gameking for the other stuff. But I did take 1 deer and the stink pig with the 55's. Just built a 16" for the wife. Both mine wear Blackhole weaponry barrels. Can't beat them for the money |

I have a 18" 6x45 I use for deer hunting... Speer 80gr do great on deer. with 27.0 grs of W-748, I get just over 2600 FPS which is good enough to deliver MOA and slightly better accuracy at 100 yards. I'd like to get one of BHW's 18" barrels but I just have too many unfinished projects going on now.
Side note: I've had no problems (neck splits) making brass using the Hornady die set with tapered expander ball and virgin Winchester .223 brass. |

Anything over 80-85 grs. in the 6x45 AR-15 has two or three main Issues: A) Mag Length Limits (You will need the longest COL AR-15 mags available like the HK-416 mags.) B) It will need to have a long throated chamber to accept the VLD rounds (In most cases). C) You will need to find a 1:8 twist Bore/Bbl. (In most cases) to properly stabilize the longer and heavier pills. The 6mm/.243 bore tends to be sensitive to twist rate especially with VLD pills. Good Luck. |
