Folks,

I HOPE I'm not doing a no-no by posting this.  If I do please forgive.

I'm a big fan of the 6x45 and I got a line on a company that will make quality 4140 Salt Bath Nitride coated barrels but I need to order minimum of 20 barrels.

Would anyone be interested in a group buy?

Again if this is a NO-NO on the web site IGNORE THIS.

I could probably go for that if the price is reasonable.  I've been looking at the 6x45 for awhile.

Please tell us a bit more about your results with the 6x45.  In the video you give a velocity of 2700fps from a 20-inch barrel using IMR8082.  What was the powered charge?

Hodgdon lists a max load of 25.0 g (compressed)  of IMR8082 loaded to 2.34 C.O.L. for  2558fps.  This is from a  24-inch barrel. They give a pressure of 46,200 CUP so there is room for increasing the pressure... But the load is compressed even when loaded to a  2.34 C.O.L. which will not fit in the AR mag.

Thanks

QL shows 2717 fps for the Sierra 90gr FMJ loaded to 2.260" with 25gr of IMR 8208 XBR from a 20" barrel but it's at 58.6K PSI(55.1K PSI max) so it seems doable but a little on the warm side.

I have a 6x45 barrel on the way for testing and load development, it's an 18" BHW 1:10 twist so I may be limited to the 80-85gr bullets but we will see.

I will post my results when I get some testing done, I have 100 each 80gr Nosler BT and 80gr Barnes TTSX to start out with along with H322, Benchmark, N133, AA2015, AA2200, IMR 8208, & RE-10X for suitable powders to try in new LC & Lapua brass.

BHW VERY nice choice.  You will be happy.

FYI-

I'm seeing if theres any interest.  The price should be no more than $200.00 with out shipping and tax where applicable.

Right now we are looking at two specs:

4140 SBN barrels from a well known manufacturer.

16" carbine gas system, .625" under handguard, .750" at gas system, and .625" to muzzle.

OR

18" rifle gas system, .70" under handguard, .750" at gas, and .70" to muzzle.

Thoughts?

I'd be VERY INTERESTED.  I have a 6x45 and have taken a few deer with it.  Let me know...

18" Bbl. w/  a .700", .750" GB, .700" Muzzle sounds good...M4 feedramps and a 1:8 or 1:9 twist and 5R rifling would
make it very sellable...IMHO, $200 would be a very fair price w/ the features mentioned above.

If you could hit this pretty close to $200, count me in.

18" .70  around or under $200?

Sounds very good to me.  Only thing better would be a 20" for this round to get a bit more velocity.

I use a charge of 25.7g of XBR 8208. I got right above 2700 fps with 100g Sierra SBT loaded to 2.290 COAL and closer to 2750 fps with speer 100g SBT with 25.7 g of XBR 8208 at 2.290 COAL as well. I use a 5 round C products mag and they all fit. The soft tip helps a little in feeding since it may rub on some mags. No case swipes or pressure signs on new Lake City 556 brass. I use CCI 400 primers as well. I have gone up to 26.1g of 8208 and there is a little powder crunch when seating to 2.30 COAL or less.

There's a section at the top of the Equipment Exchange for Group Buys.  If you're really interested in putting together a G-B you should post it there, you will probably reach more interested parties.

I built one up over the past year or so and am really liking it. I make my own brass out of once fired 223 brass, I use my Dillon 1050 that is set up to process 223 brass and add my 6x45 size die in the last station and out pops brass ready to load after a quick spin in the tumbler to get the lube off and to final polish the brass.. this way is an easy and fast way to get rolling. I just loaded up some a few days ago using 28 grn of BL-C2 and 75 grain Sierra JHP's. I'm going to go out this Wed to chrony them but I shot 20 of them today and at 100 yards I was destroying 2L pop bottles.

Here is a picture of mine with my YHM 308 QD can.. I have since changed out this scope for a Millet and a GG&G 30mm scope mount that I got stupid cheap.

Any progess on this? I could have 4 barrels spoken for if the tooling is correct on this 6x45 barrel option. I want 4 - 16" 6x45 barrels with a 1:9" twist, SPR profile, .750" gas block and threaded muzzle. I like the idea of this in 4140 salt bath Nitride, but I will settle for 416SS. Also would like the option of getting a matched bolt for each barrel. I went through White Oak Armory on a couple 6x45 barrels in the past and the quality is incredible.

I would only consider it if it had this and 5R rifling.
