I have read about 50 yard and 100 yards zeros. So I got curious and plotted some data, and it seems to me a 75 yards zero is almost ideal for a 5.56 rifle with 2.5" sight offset using M193 or M855 type ammo.

I like the 100 yard zero much better then the 50, but the 75 seems to slightly better then the 100. The 75 and 100 are very close, so realistically you need an accurate rifle to tell the difference.

The 75 trajectory is within 1/2" of POA from about 55 yards out to nearly 170 yards, and within 1" from 40 out to 180.

By contrast, the 100 trajectory is within 1/2" of POA from 60 yards out to 150, and within 1" from about 45 out to 165.

There's a 60 yard zero that seems to be a good compromise.
