for building a 7.62 upper is the upper receiver any different? I know i need a 7.62 BCG and barrel, but can I use a standard ar15 upper ?

No, assuming you are talking about a .308, it's an entirely different animal. Uppers, lowers, bolt and bolt carrier group, all different from the AR-15.

If you are talking about a 7.62 x 39 then yes, only the bolt (carrier is the same) and barrel are different from a 5.56.

ok thanks. Yeah I left out that important part.

Was thinking of building a 7.62x39 .

I have an extra upper and would like to shoot something a littler bigger than the 223.

So I just need a 7.62x39 barrel, bolt, and magazine, thanks!

You can use a standard upper if you are not using a lower that takes AK mags.

I love CPD 28rd mags with Magpul Ranger plates. The Ranger plates help me seat mags without hitting the bottom 2 corners of the mags.

Palmetto makes nice x39 barrels, they sometimes have complete x39 uppers.

And go with the C Products DEFENSE aka CPD mags.
