| If i make an Ar with an 80% lower can i make it 14.5" or does it have to be 16" |
|
You can make whatever you want, but .gov is not currently accepting taxes for machineguns. They do accept taxes for SBR's which a 14.5" barrel is. You can permanently attach a YHM or Vortex flash hider to make 16" and avoid the tax. You can also skip the butt stock and make a pistol with whatever barrel length you like. |

You can make a pistol (I would use a pistol receiver extension) and the barrel length doesn't matter federally. No tax is required and you can have an 8" or 14.5" barrel if you want. State laws may vary, but as far as I know their is no prohibition on AR pistols or SBR's in GA. If you make a machinegun and the .gov finds out you will probably be prosecuted under section 922(o). |

If you make a machinegun and the .gov finds out you will probably be prosecuted under section 922(o). Pistol receiver extension is not necessary. You can use an A1 rifle-stock length buffer tube if you like. We've been over this. |

I want to try the Thordsen tube sometime as the cheek weld looks good. Thats what it waas called. I was thinking of the sig brace because the ATF ruled it doesn't have to reclassified as a pistol and because i am using an 80% lower i dont have to register it because i milled it myself. |

AR pistol means it has a barrel length of less than 16 inches. You can make a 9mm or 45 caliber rifle as long as the barrel is 16 inches or longer. Choice of caliber does not make an AR a pistol or rifle. I know but i want to make it normal. Use 9mm and 45 for in house, ccc situations then use .308, .300 blackout, .223/5.56, for longer shots |

Choice of caliber does not make an AR a pistol or rifle. Where do you see barrel length stated as designating a gun a pistol or rifle? I was under the impression that it was "not designed to be shoulder fired", it was a pistol, and all rifles must have minimum 16" barrels without a SBR stamp. Where does it say a pistol cant have a 16" barrel or longer? |

Just build it into a pistol first, then you can decide what you want to do after that. Either keep it as is, or make it a rifle, and go back to a pistol if you want, or back into a rifle after that. Or SBR it. Then you can have a short barreled upper and a long barreled upper, and have a stock too. |
