Is it ok to run a Tactical Machine 80% lower in the white? I have no way to anodize it at this time. I was thinking some aluminum black from brownells- anyone try that? I know anodizing hardens the aluminum, but don't know how critical this is.

What media would I use to blast it in prep for a finish?

Thanks!

http://www.usanodizing.com/ will anodize a finished 80% receiver for $30, don't waste time or money on anything else

The two main reasons to anodize aluminum are to create a hard layer and provide corrosion protection. The fact that you can also color it is just a side benefit.

If you're like most of us, you want to preserve your new work of art. Empty a couple of mags to celebrate finishing your lower, but then get it anodized in whatever way you can.

spend the extra and send it to Victor, I have done several 80% lowers and wasted my time and money using the coatings, for the 30.00 you will have the benefit
of nowing its done right and will last.

Great tip, was wondering how to finish mine when the time comes.  I have the 80%ers, just not ready to do the work.

How did you complete yours, a milling machine or a drill press?

I have the Tactical Machining jig on order.

I used a buddies milling machine- came out beautiful for my first too. CNC gunsmithing  jig

I skipped the process of drilling all the little holes, and just hogged out most of the material with a 1/2 inch end mill then used the template to finish it- much faster that way
