My wife challenged me to find a cheaper way to enjoy my shooting hobby.  I accepted her challenge and went with a dedicated 9mm setup:

DDLES AR15 Glock Small Frame Mag Lower Receiver
- Rear Profile: Vltor
- Material: 6061 Aluminum
- Selector Marking: Pictogram, Bullets (SAFE, FIRE)
- Engraving Over Anodizing: Custom Engraving
- Engraving (Top Line): XXXX XXXX
- Engraving (Bottom Line): XXXXXX, XX
- Stripped or Assembled: Complete Rifle Lower with Timney Trigger

Vltor AR15 Pistol Caliber Complete Upper
- Barrel Length: 16 inch
- Free float rail: DDLES HGS 927 mid-length
- Caliber: 9x19mm
- Magazine type: Glock small frame
- Muzzle Device: Standard A1 9mm

Custom AR15 Pistol Caliber Barrels
- Caliber: 9x19mm
- Barrel Length: 6.3 inch

DDLES Handguard Rail System
- Handguard Length: 6.35 inch
- Material: 6061 Aluminum

Other:
- Noveske KX3 Flash Suppressor
- (5) Glock 33 Round 9MM Magazines

Form 1 being filled out tomorrow. Should have everything by 1/1/13.  Hopefully by June I can go the SBR + Suppressor route.  Ideally, I need to select the Suppressor this week.  Any specific suggestions?

Here is a look (picture from Jon @ DDLES) that the SBR setup should closely yield:

Version with the UZI mag:

A few of the Suppressors that I am looking at:

- YHM Wraith suppressor
- AAC Ti-Rant
- Octane HD 2
- ??

Thanks,
Mike

I have a liberty mystic on order to do about  the same type of build.  Just trying to convince myself to turn loose of DDLES kind of cash.  Be a 2k + build after its all said and done. . With a 6.3 barrel and 6.35 rail, your gonna have a lot more suppressor showing than in the pic though, but it will still be one sweet set up!

That is sweet looking.  I would kill to be able to go sbr here.  Shoot I would even be happy to use the kx3 on a build. Stupid state!!!

Question:

- Is a baffle strike something I should be worried about in a Carbine 9MM with a suppressor that is screwed on (shooting Semi and/or FA) <-- without using a LUG or QD setup?

Right now I have the KX3 ordered and want to be in a position where I can quickly swap out at the range the KX3 and put the suppressor on.  Yet - if I should be using a 3 Lug / QD setup then that means more than just unscrewing the KX3 as I have to remove the handguard and torque them to specifications.  The alternative is to use something like the YHM Wraith XL and just screw on/off.

This is a predicated on the fear that a baffle strike would occur.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

Excellent choice!
I am waiting for DDLES to ship my engraved Glock lower too - been about 10 days so far.
I won't order my upper until my Form 1 is well under way.   I started the process by ordering my Ti-Rant 9mm can first, knowing it would take the longest to arrive/transfer.

I assume you are directly screwing the Ti Rant 9 into the barrel?

Right now, after reading a whole bunch - here is what I have come up with:

Can use:
- AAC Ti-RANT 9
--- Need spacer (15.00)
--- Length = 7.9"
--- Weight = 8.6 Oz
--- Diameter = 1.38
--- serviceable = Partial Self
--- Full Auto = Yes
--- Warranty: Lifetime

- GemTech Multimount (or Raptor)
--- Need Threaded Rear Mount (75.00)
--- Need LID (150.00)
--- Length = 7"
--- Weight = 6.5 OZ
--- Diameter = 1.375
--- serviceable = Self
--- Full Auto = No - recommendation to use Raptor
--- Warranty = Lifetime

- SWR Octane HD 2
--- Need fixed mount (75.00)
--- Length = 7.5"
--- Weight = 10.78 oz
--- Diameter = 1.375
--- Serviceable = Self
--- Full Auto = Yes
--- Warranty: Lifetime

I am going to be reviewing the dB ratings next.

Thanks,
Mike

You don't need the LID on the Multimount, unless you want to use the MM on a handgun. LIDs are actually not recommended for fixed barrel setups (like your AR)....

One of my good friends - the SOB that got me thinking about a 9mm carbine - he went with the Octane.
I have 7 different suppressors and really like my AAC cans.   You can't really go wrong with any of the three you liked.  The decibel difference isn't really noticeable - more of a paper difference.   If you want a really quite 9mm can wet it and use fiochi 158gr subsonic ammo.

Right.  I had it in there as "what I needed to buy as an entire package" so it could fit my other 9mm handguns.  But absolutely - thank you for pointing that out as if I didn't know, you could have saved me a good chunk of money that would have been better spent on ammo!

Thanks,
Mike
